Hat and snood with gorgeous patterns, knitted with needles, from Drops Design.

The beret pattern looks very harmonious: visually it starts from a six-petal flower on top, and from there delicate leaves intertwine in braids.

On the fabric of the snood, the silhouette of the leaves is preserved, but the knitting itself is softer and lighter.

The beret is intended for a head circumference of 56-58 cm.

It is best to knit from Drops Merino Extra Fine yarn produced by Garnstudio. It is 100% wool, sold in skeins (50 g/105 m). For the beret, as well as for the snood, you will need 150 g of yarn, totaling – 300 g. 

The yarn is medium thickness, and it is convenient to knit with needles of 3.5 mm and 4 mm. We will use circular needles with a cable length of 40 cm.

The knitting density is such that a square of 10x10 cm will be obtained by knitting 30 rows from the original 22 stitches (sts) in stockinette stitch.

Patterns for knitted accessories are given in the appendix, charts C.1-C.4 for the beret, and chart C.5 for the snood.

Technique for knitting the beret with various patterns

We take 3.5 mm needles and cast on 8 sts, joining them in a circle. Then we knit in circular rows (c/r) as follows:

1st c/r: *1 knit st (k); 1 yarn over (yo) *; repeat *-* = 16 sts.

2nd c/r: knit all k, making sure to knit the yo through the back loop.

3rd c/r: 1 k; *1 knit st (k); 1 yo *; repeat *-*; 1 k = 30 sts.

4th c/r: knit all k, making sure to knit the yo through the back loop.

5th c/r: * C.1 (= 1 stitch); C.2 (= 4 stitches) *; repeat *-*.

Knit the full vert/rapport of charts C.1 and C.2 = 54 sts.

Knit the c/r with all k.

Knit the c/r with all p (purl sts).

Technique for knitting the women's snood from Drops

We take 4 mm needles and cast on 144 sts, joining them in a circle. Then we knit c/r as follows:

C/r 1: all p.

C/r 2: all k.

C/r 3: all p.

C/r 4: knit according to C.5, 4 gar/rapports in width.

Knit the pattern from C.5 until the height of the fabric reaches 30 cm. You should finish on the 5th, or 13th, or 21st, or 29th row of the pattern.

Then finish the snood as follows:

C/r: all k.

C/r: all p.

Bind off all sts.
