Description of the hat for a head circumference of 52-56 cm.

  • Scarf-collar knitted in one size — 150x22 cm.

Dimensions of finished products:

  • Hat: for a head circumference of 52-56 cm.
  • Infinity scarf (snood): the circumference of the infinity scarf is 150 cm with a fabric height of about 22 cm.

For knitting the infinity scarf and hat you will need

  • Yarn Schachenmayr original Northern (100% acrylic; 100 g/210 m).

1 skein (100 grams) for the hat and 3 skeins (300 grams) for the infinity scarf in turquoise color No.00220.

  • Straight needles with stoppers or circular needles No.4-5 mm.
  • Circular needles No. 4.5-5.5 mm with a cable length of 40 cm for the scarf
  • Double-pointed needles (5 pieces) No. 4.5-5.5 mm for the hat
  • Double-pointed needles (5 pieces) No. 4.5 mm for the infinity scarf
  • Auxiliary curved needle for knitting braids of the same size for the hat and infinity scarf.
  • Patterns

Rib 1x1: alternating 1 purl, 1 knit.

Main pattern: knit according to the diagram for the hat in the round and the scarf in straight rows.

The diagram shows the circular rows and straight rows from both the knit and purl sides of the knitting.

Read the circular rows and rows on the knit side from right to left, and rows on the purl side — from left to right.

  • Hat:

knit the 1st and 2nd circular rows once, then repeat from the 3rd to the 14th circular rows until the end.

  • Infinity scarf:

repeat rows from 3 to 14 throughout the entire knitting.

3 edge stitches for the infinity scarf:

  • in each knit row, knit the edge stitches as follows: 1 knit stitch, then slip 1 stitch as purl, yarn in front, knit one stitch;
  • in purl rows, knit the edge stitches as follows: slip 1 stitch purlwise with yarn in front, knit the next stitch, slip 1 stitch unknitted with yarn in front.

Knitting density for the hat with braids and for the infinity scarf with the main pattern using needles 4.5-5.5 mm (slightly stretched) is 20 stitches and 24 rows/circular rows per 10 cm of fabric.

Hat with braids knitting scheme

On circular needles No. 4-5 mm, cast on 80 stitches and knit 5 cm in rib 1x1, starting the row with 1 purl stitch.

Continue knitting with needles 4.5-5.5 mm using the main pattern according to the diagram = repeating the motif from the 16th to the 20th stitch 5 times.

After knitting the 1st circular row, there should be 100 stitches on the needle.

At a height of 22.5 cm, after the 6th circular row of the pattern, start making decreases (if necessary, you can use double-pointed needles):

knit 3 stitches together purlwise 10 times = 80 stitches.

Continue knitting in stockinette stitch while simultaneously doing the following:

The next 2nd circular row (knit side): 2 knit together in every 2nd stitch 26 times, ending with 2 knit stitches = 54 stitches.

The next 2nd circular row: 2 knit together in every 2nd stitch 18 times = 36 stitches.

The next 2nd circular row: 2 knit together in every 2nd stitch 12 times = 24 stitches.

Then continue knitting 2 knit together until 6 stitches remain.

In these last stitches, pull the yarn through and tighten securely.

Total height is about 26 cm.

Infinity scarf knitting description

Cast on 59 stitches and knit the 1st row, which corresponds to the purl side, as follows:

3 edge stitches, *3 knit stitches, 3 purl stitches, 1 knit stitch, 3 purl stitches*, repeat 4 times from * to *, 3 knit stitches, 3 edge stitches.

Continue knitting with the main pattern as follows:

3 edge stitches, motif of 20 stitches 2 times, stitches from 1 to 13 of the motif 1 time, 3 edge stitches.

Next, repeat rows from 3 to 14 30 times, closing the stitches in the last row.

This completes the knitting of the infinity scarf. Now we move on to processing and sewing.

Processing the infinity scarf

Cover the knitted piece of the infinity scarf with a damp cloth, moisten it this way, remove the cloth, and leave the piece of the infinity scarf in a horizontal position until fully dry. Sew the infinity scarf, joining the first and last row of the knitted piece.
