Hat and Sweater with the Same Pattern

The pattern on the hat can be knitted in a braid of 12 stitches.

Braid of 12 stitchesFor the sample, cast on 18 stitches + 2 edge stitches   Row 1: 3 purl stitches, 12 knit stitches, 3 purl stitches Row 2 and all even rows: 3 knit stitches, 12 purl stitches, 3 knit stitches Rows 3 and 5: 3 purl stitches, 12 knit stitches, 3 purl stitches Row 6: 3 purl stitches, transfer the next 4 stitches to a spare needle and place it in front of the work, knit the next 4 knit stitches, then knit the 4 knit stitches from the spare needle, 4 knit stitches, 3 purl stitches. Rows 9 and 11: 3 purl stitches, 12 knit stitches, 3 purl stitches Row 13: 3 purl stitches, 4 knit stitches, transfer the next 4 stitches to a spare needle and place it at the back of the work, knit the next 4 knit stitches, then knit the 4 knit stitches from the spare needle, 3 purl stitches.                                                    Alternatively, you can knit  relief braids.

Due to a different combination of purl and knit stitches, where knit stitches prevail, the pattern becomes more relief-like:

• The number of stitches in this case is taken as a multiple, that is, 11 plus 4 stitches for edges and symmetry.
• Rows 1, 3 and 7, 9 are knitted according to the following repeat: 2 purl stitches, 9 knit stitches, At the end of the row, knit 2 purl stitches for symmetry.
• In odd rows, two symmetry stitches are knitted at the beginning of the row as knits, then under the knits, we make knit stitches, under the purls, purl stitches.

  In the fifth row, we form the intertwining of the braid and knit the row as follows: 2 purl stitches, 3 stitches are transferred to a secondary needle, leaving it in front of the fabric, knit the next 3 stitches as knits, then knit the transferred stitches as purls, and the remaining 3 stitches of the pattern as knits. The row again ends with two purls.
• The eleventh row is knitted according to the following scheme: 2 purl stitches, 3 knits, the next 3 stitches are transferred to a spare needle, the next three are knitted as purls, then we return to the removed stitches and knit them as knits.   Braid of 18 stitches. For the sample, cast on 24 stitches: edge, 2 purls, 18 knits (braid 6 x 3), 2 purls, edge.  Intertwine the braid in every 8th row.
