Circumference of the hat – 57 (65, 65) cm,
Circumference of the lower edge – 41 (41, 46) cm,
Height of the hat – 20.5 cm.
Choose a size where the circumference of the lower edge is 5 cm less than the circumference of the head.
Required yarn:
Yarn Stories Fine Merino (100% merino wool; 178 m / 50 grams per skein) – 2 skeins.
Required tools:
Circular needles No. 2.75 and No. 3.5, 40 cm long, a set of double-pointed needles No. 3.5, stitch markers.
Knitting density:
32 stitches and 40 rows = 10 cm of stockinette stitch, knitted with needles No. 3.5.
Note: the hat is knitted from the lower edge. After the ribbing, increases are made.
Start of knitting:
With needles No. 2.75, loosely cast on 120 (120, 140) stitches.
Join the stitches into a ring. Place a marker at the beginning of the round.
Knit 15 rounds of 1x1 ribbing (1 knit stitch, 1 purl stitch).
Next round: *5 (2, 6) knit stitches, 1 stitch knit through the front then through the back; repeat from * to the end of the round – on needles 140 (160, 160) stitches.
Change to needles No. 3.5.
Next round: knit stitches.
Knit rows 1-7 according to pattern A, using markers to separate 7 (8, 8) repeats of the motif, each 20 stitches – on needles 182 (208, 208) stitches.
Knit rows 1-16 according to pattern B.
Knit rows 1-9 according to pattern C – on needles 140 (160, 160) stitches.
Repeat the motif according to pattern A and pattern B once. Do not repeat the motif according to pattern C – on needles 182 (208, 208) stitches.
Knit rows 1-10 according to pattern D, switching to double-pointed needles when few stitches remain – on needles 14 (16, 16) stitches.
Finishing:
Cut the yarn and pull it through the remaining stitches. Tighten securely and secure the yarn.
