Materials

Yarn: any of your choice. For accurate calculations, be sure to swatch.
In the example, Gazzal Baby Cotton (165 m / 50 g) held in two plies — about 80–85 m / 50 g.
Circular needles with a length of 40 cm in the suitable diameter (for tighter density — 2.5 mm).
Additional needle for slipping and knitting pattern stitches (optional; you can do without it).
Double-pointed needles for working decreases.
Crochet hook or tapestry needle for gathering stitches at the crown.

Work description

Size: for head circumference 50–54 cm

Cast on in a convenient way 80 stitches (or any other even number) + 1 stitch to close in the round — total 81 stitches.
Knit in 1×1 ribbing to the desired height (in the example — 11 rounds ≈ 4.5 cm).
Proceed to the main pattern.

Pattern

Pattern repeat across the width — 18 stitches.
В первом ряду узора после резинки равномерно прибавить 10 петель (из протяжки после каждой 8-й петли), чтобы получилось 90 петель — 5 раппортов.
Далее вязать по схеме узора.
По высоте в примере выполнен один неполный и два полных “стебелька”. После этого перейти к убавкам.

Decreases

Decreases are made in purl stitches.
When knitting the third (last) “stem”, knit two purl stitches together – before and after each stem (the row decreases by 10 stitches).
Such decreases are worked on every second row, until 20 stitches remain.
In the last row, knit two together to the end of the row.
Draw the remaining stitches tight and secure the yarn.
