Mohair Skirt Soft Dream

Color: dark blue (shade 214)
Yarn used: exactly 8 skeins
Needles: 3.75 mm and 4.5 mm

 Description

The skirt is knitted according to a popular pattern that is widely shared on the internet. Unfortunately, I do not know the author of the pattern, and I apologize in advance for publishing it without their permission.

The model is knitted top down, which gives more freedom for adjusting the length.

Knitting Process

  1. Casting On:
I cast on stitches on waste yarn using 3.75 mm needles and knitted 9 rows of stockinette stitch in the round.

  2. Transition to Main Pattern:
Then I switched to 4.5 mm needles and continued knitting according to the pattern.

  3. Pattern Structure:
After the first repeat in height, I continued knitting in stockinette stitch, maintaining the decorative "rays" (yarn over, 3 stitches together knit, yarn over), and then again — the next repeat.

In the end, there were three tiers:

    • 1st tier — 16 repeats

    • 2nd tier — 32 repeats

    • 3rd tier — 64 repeats

    • Ruffle — a total of 128 repeats! Can you imagine how many stitches that is?!

  4. Waist (top):
After finishing the bottom, I removed the waste yarn from the top and knitted the upper part of the skirt with 3.75 mm needles to the desired length.
I could have started with a double ribbing right away, but I was afraid I wouldn't have enough yarn… and lately, I've become a bit timid.

The Most Difficult Part — Blocking

The blocking was done in the manner of blocking a shawl.

Legend:

  • K = knit

  • Yo = yarn over

  • K2tog = knit 2 together

  • Ssk = slip 2 together knitwise

  • Sl2tog-k1-psso = slip 2 stitches together, knit 1, pass the slipped stitches over the knitted stitch

Instructions:

  • Cast on 6 stitches.

  • 1st and 2nd rows = knit

  • Then knit according to the pattern:

    • rows 1–13 (row) — knit each row of the pattern 6 times within one round

  • Rows not indicated on the pattern should be knitted in knit stitch.

  • Repeat rows 1–78 several more times and finish with a lace edge Pointed scallop

  • After row 78, knit 3 rows — all knit.

Footnotes:

  • 1 = move the round marker to the right by 1 stitch.

  • 2 = by 2 stitches

  • 3 = by 3 stitches
