It is no longer a secret that many are against knitting the raglan line with a simple dull square; our bodies are more perfect, unless, of course, they have been run over by a steamroller. Therefore, if it is not an oversized pullover or, conversely, very tight, it is better to pay more attention to the raglan line, not only decorating your shoulders but also removing unsightly bubbles and folds on the sleeves.

1. Mentally divide our raglan line into three parts, remembering that it should ideally be about 20 cm high on the back and the back part of the sleeve, and that on the front and the front part of the sleeve the height is less (that is, we knit the sleeve on one side to the height of the back rows, and on the other to the height of the front rows)
2. Close the stitches at the beginning of the armhole, depending on the thickness of our yarn, this is from three to seven stitches; don't be stingy, less than five is already a critical line; remember that we are not flat)
3. Raglan decreases for the back and front: the first third is the smallest, the third is the largest
4. Raglan decreases for the sleeve - on the contrary - the first third is the largest, the third is the smallest.
5. To make calculations easy, don't forget - the number of rows should match at the seams, and it's better to make decreases in an even number of rows (every second, every fourth) so that there is no mismatch when sewing
6. Sew with a mattress stitch, from top to bottom, first leaving a long tail when the thread breaks, and we make our decreases, regardless of their decorative nature, at least one stitch from the edge (forget the word "selvage" forever)

Even if all of this seems unclear and complicated, the most important advice is - think with your hands, that is, take the needles in your hands and do it; as you go, everything becomes clear and simple, and to make it completely simple, let's now consider a specific raglan on a specific example

1. Raglan decreases for the back:
7 stitches
Then decreases are made at a distance of two stitches from the edge, with a decorative slope
1 stitch every fourth row 3 times
1 stitch every second row 23 times
2 stitches every second row 4 times
68 rows
On the front, the number of rows and decreases is less due to the neckline cut.

2. Raglan decreases for the sleeve from the back side:
7 stitches
Then decorative decreases at a distance of two stitches from the edge
2 stitches every second row 2 times (I remind you that in this model I have a narrow sleeve and a wide body; in a normal version, it is better to increase this number of decreases to 3-4, as well as increase the number of decreases in the second part and decrease by 1-3 in the third part)
1 stitch every second row 13 times
1 stitch every fourth row 9 times
68 rows as on the back
For the front side, we knit the sleeve as on the front, knitting an equal number of rows, the neckline is continued with a small closure of stitches.
