Sweater with pockets and a hood

Size 40-42

Materials: 400 g of yarn (100% acrylic) in the color of faded rose, needles: No.4.5 and 5.

Patterns: Ribbing 2*2, stockinette stitch.

Ribbing 2*1: knit alternately 2 knit stitches and 1 purl stitch. Purl rows are knitted according to the pattern.

Hollow ribbing: knit ribbing 1*1, in this case knit the knit stitches in both the right and wrong rows, and slip the purl stitches, leaving the yarn in front of the work.

Double cast-on: using a helper yarn, cast on half the number of stitches needed + 1 stitch. Continue with the main color yarn: 1st row (right side): * 1 knit stitch, 1 yarn over *, repeat from * to the end of the row and finish with 1 knit stitch. 2nd row: knit the knit stitches from the lower row without knitting, yarn in front of the work, knit the yarn over. When finishing knitting the pieces, remove the helper yarn.

Securing stitches with a needle: when securing the stitch with a needle from the last row knitted with hollow ribbing, it is necessary to insert the needle into the 1st knit and the 1st purl stitch and pull the yarn through. Go back and insert into the 1st and 2nd knit stitches, go back, insert into the 1st and 2nd purl stitches, go back, insert into the 2nd and 3rd knit stitches, and so on. Until all stitches are closed.

Cord: cast on 3 stitches and knit them, * transfer 3 stitches to the left needle, yarn behind the work and knit.*. Repeat from * until the cord reaches the desired length.

Plait: according to the pattern.

Knitting Density

10 * 10 cm = 21 stitches * 23 rows of ribbing 2*2. 10 * 10 cm = 16 stitches * 23 rows of stockinette stitch.

WORK DESCRIPTION

Back

On needles No. 4.5, cast on 90 stitches using double cast-on and knit 12 cm of ribbing 2*2. Continue with needles No. 5 in stockinette stitch, evenly decreasing 21 stitches in the 1st row = 69 stitches. After 17 cm, knit 7 cm of ribbing 2*1 and continue in stockinette stitch. At a height of 40 cm from the beginning, decrease for armholes on both sides in every 8th row after 1 edge stitch 3 times by 2 stitches = 57 stitches. At a total height of 62 cm, cast off 15 stitches for each shoulder and 27 stitches for the neckline.

Front

Knit as for the back. At a height of 36 cm, close the central 5 stitches for the slit and knit both sides separately, distributing the stitches for the right side as follows: 8 stitches in stockinette stitch, 6 stitches according to the pattern, 18 stitches in stockinette stitch. After 4 cm, make armhole as on the back = 26 stitches. At a height of 14 cm from the beginning of the armhole, close for the neckline in every 2nd row: 4 stitches, 3 stitches, 2 stitches, and 2 times 1 stitch. At a total height of 62 cm, close 15 stitches for the shoulder.

The left side is knitted symmetrically to the right.

Sleeves

On needles No. 4.5, cast on 74 stitches using double cast-on and knit 3 cm of ribbing 2?2. Continue with needles No. 5 in stockinette stitch, evenly decreasing 15 stitches in the 1st row = 59 stitches. Starting from the 2nd row of stockinette stitch, close for the cap on both sides in every 2nd row 9 times by 2 stitches and the remaining 23 stitches. Total height about 12 cm.

Hood

On needles No. 4.5, cast on 130 stitches using double cast-on and knit 3 cm of ribbing 2*2. Continue with needles No. 5 in stockinette stitch, evenly decrease 29 stitches in the 1st row = 101 stitches, and decrease on both sides in every 2nd row 5 times by 2 stitches = 81 stitches. At a height of 18 cm from the beginning, decrease on both sides of the middle stitch in every 2nd row 4 times by 1 stitch and close the remaining 73 stitches. Total height about 22 cm.

Pockets

Knitting 2 pieces. On needles No. 5, cast on 50 stitches and knit in stockinette stitch. At a height of 5 cm, continue with needles No. 4.5 in the same pattern for another 6 cm and close the stitches. Fold half of the section knitted with needles No. 4.5, forming a casing. Knit 2 cords about 30 cm each, thread them through the pockets' casings, tighten and tie.

Assembly

Pin the pieces to the pattern, moisten, and let them dry. Sew on the pockets (see photo). Perform the seams and set the sleeves into the armholes, considering that the ribbing of the sleeves is sewn into the armhole. Along the edges of the front slit, pick up stitches on needles No. 4.5, knit 3 cm of ribbing 2*2, then 2 rows of hollow ribbing and close the stitches with a needle. Lay the right side flap over the left flap and sew along the lower edge. Perform the hood seam and sew it to the neckline..
