Merino wool allows the "cables" that adorn this model to be soft and voluminous. The melange yarn makes the pattern even more textured. You can wear the cardigan with jeans or a skirt; it goes well with almost any clothing. You can wear a wide belt over the cardigan to accentuate your figure.

WORK INSTRUCTIONS
The model is knitted with a fitted silhouette. You can make a looser cardigan by knitting it one size larger than your measurements. The "cables" pattern is worked on reverse stockinette stitch. The pattern chart is read from left to right.

Back
Using the Italian cast-on method, cast on 94 (104, 114, 124, 134, 144) sts.
In the next row, knit 2 knit, 2 purl:
1 purl, * 1 knit, slip the next st (purl) to the E.N. (Extra Needle) behind the work. Knit the next st from the left needle, knit the st from the E.N. Knit the next st.
Repeat from * to the end of the row.

The right front
Using the Italian cast-on method, cast on 58 (63, 68, 73, 78, 83) sts. In the next row, knit ribbing 2x2 as for the back.
The next row (wrong side): 1 purl (selvedge st.), 2 purl, 12(17, 22, 27, 32, 39) knit, place marker, knit the first row of the complex pearl "cable", place marker, 1 knit, 1 purl, 1 purl (selvedge st.).
Knit the next row (right side): 2 knit, 1 purl, move the marker, knit the 1st row of the complex pearl "cable", move the marker, 12 (17, 22, 27, 32, 39) purl, 3 knit.

TAKING IN AT THE WAIST
Continue knitting according to the pattern, at the same time, starting from the 5th row, bind off 1 st in every 4th row 7 times, then in every 6th row 2 times, knit according to the pattern until the last 5 sts, 2 together purl, 3 knit. There are 49 (54, 59, 64, 69, 74) sts in work.
Knit according to the pattern for 13(15, 15, 17, 17, 19) rows. In the next row (row 27 (1, 1, 3, 3, 5) of the pattern), and in every subsequent 8th row add 1 st 8 times: knit according to the pattern until the last 3 sts, slip 1 p, 3 knit. There are 57 (62, 67, 72, 77, 82) sts in work. Knit the next 14 rows according to the pattern.

ARMHOLE
In the next row on the wrong side (row 22 (24, 24, 26, 26, 28) of the pattern) bind off the first 8 (10, 12, 14, 16, 18) sts and knit according to the pattern until the end of the row. Then bind off 1 st in the armhole in every 4th row 4 times, starting from row 27 (1, 1, 3, 3, 5) of the pattern.
Knit 27 (29, 29, 31, 31, 33) rows.
At the beginning of the 7th repetition of the pattern; bind off the first 5 sts in the 1 (3, 3, 5, 5, 7) row, following the pattern, bind off 1 st from the armhole side in every row 4 times. Knit the 1st row on the wrong side, there are 36 (41, 46, 51, 56, 61) sts in work. In the next row on the right side, bind off all remaining stitches.

The left front
Work symmetrically to the right front, completing the initial row (wrong side):
1 purl (selvedge st.), 1 purl, 1 knit, place marker, knit the first row of the complex pearl "cable", place marker, 12 (17, 22, 27, 32, 39) knit, 2 purl, 1 purl (selvedge st.).
Perform all increases and decreases mirror-wise, adding stitches by knitting through the back loop.

Sleeves
Using the Italian cast-on method, cast on 56 (59, 62, 65, 68, 71) sts.
Row A1 (wrong side): 2 purl, 2 knit, 2 purl, 2 knit, place marker, knit the first row of the complex pearl "cable", place marker, 2 knit, 2 purl, 2 knit, 2 purl.
Row B1 (right side): knit according to the pattern, simultaneously increasing by 1 st on both sides in every 12th (12th, 12th, 13th, 13th, 14th) row 6 times. There are 68 (71, 74, 77, 80, 83) sts in work. Knit another 7 rows, then bind off the first 8 sts in the next 2 rows. There are 52 (55, 58, 61, 64, 67) sts in work.

SLEEVE CAP
Knit 14 (18, 18, 22, 22, 26) rows according to the pattern. Make a decrease row for the cap.
Row V: knit row 16 (20, 20, 24, 24, 28) according to the pattern of the complex pearl "cable" until 2nd st before the marker, 2 together purl, move the marker, knit the complex pearl "cable", move the marker, 2 together purl, knit to the end of the row.
Knit 6 rows according to the pattern.
Decrease row (right side):
knit to 2nd st before the marker, 2 together knit, move the marker, knit the complex pearl "cable", move the marker, 2 together knit through the back loops, knit to the end of the row.
Repeat the decrease row every 4 rows 2 times, then every 2nd row 3 times.
Row G: knit 9 (13, 13, 17, 17, 21) rows of the pattern of the complex pearl "cable", binding off 1 st from both sides according to the pattern. At the same time in this row, only knit between points A and B of the complex pearl "cable" pattern, repeat the remaining sts of the pattern as indicated.
Knit a decrease row in the next 2nd row 1 time, then in each row 1 time.
Following the pattern, bind off 3 sts at the beginning of the next 2 rows, then 4 sts at the beginning of the next 2 rows. Bind off all remaining sts — 18 (21, 24, 27, 30, 33) sts.

Assembly
Make shoulder seams with a horizontal knitted seam (see "Special Techniques," p. 125). Set in the sleeves and complete the side seams. Finish the front bands and collar.

BAND
Along the edge of the right front (on the right side), starting from the cast-on edge, pick up and knit 169 (177, 177, 185, 185, 185) sts.
3 purl, * 2 knit, 2 purl; repeat from * to the end of the row. Knit as described for 12 (16, 16, 20, 20, 24) rows or until the width of the band is 4 (5; 5; 6; 6; 7.5) cm.
Bind off all sts according to the pattern.
Along the edge of the left front on the wrong side, starting from the neckline, pick up and knit 169 (177, 177, 185, 185, 185) sts — * 2 purl, 2 knit; repeat from * to the last st, 1 knit. Continue as for the right band.

COLLAR
From the right side, pick up and knit 82 (86, 86, 90, 90, 94) sts along the neckline. Knit 1 row in ribbing 2x2.
In the next row (right side) knit 14 sts according to the pattern, 2 together purl, knit 10 sts, 2 together purl, knit 26 (30, 30, 34, 34, 38) sts, 2 together purl, knit 10 sts, then 2 together purl, knit 14 sts. Knit 1 row (without decreases). There are 78 (82, 82, 86, 86, 90) sts in work.
Row A2: knit 14 sts, 2 together knit, knit 9 sts, 2 together knit, knit 24 (28, 28, 32, 32, 36) sts, 2 together knit through the back loops, knit 9 sts, 2 together knit through the back loops, knit 14 sts.
Knit 3 rows in ribbing. There are 74 (78, 78, 82, 82, 86) sts in work.
Row B2 (right side): knit 13 sts, 2 together knit, knit 8 sts, 2 together knit, knit 24 (28, 28, 32, 32, 36) sts, 2 together knit through the back loops, knit 8 sts, 2 together knit through the back loops, knit 13 sts.
Knit 3 rows in stockinette stitch. There are 70 (74, 74, 78, 78, 82) sts in work.
Row V2 (right side): knit 12 sts, 2 together knit, knit 42 (46, 46, 50, 50, 54) sts, 2 together knit through the back loops, knit 12 sts. There are 68 (72, 72, 76, 76, 80) sts in work.
Knit 10(11, 11, 12, 12, 13) rows in ribbing without decreases. Bind off all stitches according to the pattern.

Assembly
Steam the collar to maintain the texture of the ribbing.
