Extended Sweater with Turtleneck

YOU WILL NEED

Yarn (100% wool; 80 m/50 g) – 950 (1000) 1050 g wine red; needles No. 5 and 5.5; circular needles No. 5, 5.5, and 6.

PATTERNS AND SCHEMES

RIBBING

Number of stitches is a multiple of 4 + 2 edge stitches. 

Front row: edge stitch, * 1 knit, 2 purls, 1 knit, repeat from * to finish with 1 edge stitch.
Back row: knit stitches according to the pattern.

MAIN PATTERN

Number of stitches is a multiple of 8 + 2 edge stitches. Knit according to the provided chart. The chart shows only the front rows; knit the stitches of the back rows according to the pattern. 

Repeat the pattern width-wise between the edge stitches, height-wise from the 1st to the 12th row.

KNITTING DENSITY

19 sts x 25 rows = 10 x 10 cm, knitted in the main pattern.

PATTERN

EXECUTION OF THE WORK

BACK

On needles No. 5, cast on 82 (90) 98 stitches and knit 10 cm in ribbing, adding 24 sts evenly in the last back row = 106 (114) 122 sts on the needles. 

Then switch to needles No. 5.5 and continue working in the main pattern. 

After 29 cm = 72 rows (26.5 cm = 66 rows) 24 cm = 60 rows from the ribbing, increase on both sides for the expansion of the piece (= forming seamless sleeves) 1 x by 1 st, then 2 x every 6th row, 2 x every 4th row, and 3 x every 2nd row by another 1 st. 

After that, cast on 2 x 2 sts and 2 x 3 sts every 2nd row, include the added stitches in the main pattern = 142 (150) 158 sts on the needles. 

After 17.5 cm = 44 rows (20 cm = 50 rows) 22.5 cm = 56 rows from the beginning of the sleeves, close 1 x by 3 sts on both sides for the shoulder slopes, then in every 2nd row 8 x by 3 sts and 4 x by 4 sts (4 x by 3 sts and 8 x by 4 sts) 12 x by 4 sts.

At the same time, after 68 cm = 170 rows from the ribbing, close the middle 40 sts for the neckline and finish both sides separately.

To round the neckline, close 2 x 2 sts at the inner edge in every 2nd row.

After 10.5 cm = 26 rows from the beginning of the shoulder slopes, close the remaining 4 sts of the shoulder accordingly. 

FRONT

Knit as for the back, but with a deeper neckline. For this, after 62.5 cm = 156 rows from the ribbing, close the middle 26 sts and finish both sides separately. 

To round the neckline, close 2 x 2 sts and 3 x 1 st at the inner edge in every 2nd row, and then in the next 4th row, close another 1 stitch.

ASSEMBLY

Sew the shoulder seams. 

For the turtleneck, cast on 90 sts on circular needles No. 5.5 at the neckline edge and initially knit alternately 2 knits and 1 purl.

After 5 cm, before each 2nd purl row, knit 1 purl twisted stitch from the yarn over. 

After the next 2 cm, before the remaining purl rows, add another stitch by knitting another purl twisted stitch from the yarn overs = 120 sts on the needles and continue knitting according to the pattern. 

After 10 cm from the beginning of the neckline, switch to circular needles No. 6 and continue working. At a height of 26 cm for the collar, close all stitches. 

Sew the side seams.
