Pullover with brioche pattern

 Sizes: waist circumference approx. 89 [102, 113, 124, 134.5, 148, 159] cm. The shown pullover is size 102 cm with an allowance for loose fit of 16 cm.

 Yarn: medium weight wool (No. 4 medium). Shown: Marine Silk Worsted by Blue Moon Fiber Arts (51% silk, 29% merino, 20% SeaCell viscose; 222 m / 100 g): neptune (turquoise), 5 skeins.

Needles: BACK AND SLEEVES: circular 4.5 mm (US 7): 40 and 60 or 80 cm. FRONT AND EDGES: circular 3.75 mm (US 5): 60 or 80 cm. Adjust needle size if necessary to achieve the correct gauge.

 Notions: closing stitch markers (closed m); markers (m); stitch holders or scrap yarn; tapestry needle.

 Gauge: 19 stitches and 26 rows = 10 cm in stockinette stitch with larger needles. 15 stitches and 22 rows = 10 cm in brioche rib with smaller needles.

NOTES

» The sweater has an unusual shape at the center front and back, creating a larger draped silhouette along the upper body.

Due to this additional width, the dropped sleeves are quite short, providing a three-quarter fit.

» The brioche pattern is only knitted in the front.

» Sizes are approximate as the fabric is very elastic and stretches over time.

» The purl columns of the brioche pattern are shaded in gray on the chart to better distinguish them from the knit columns of brioche.

 KNITTING GUIDE

Ribbing 1 k, 1 p, in circular rows: (even number of stitches)

1st round: *1 k, 1 p; repeat from * to end of round. Repeat 1st round as established.

Ribbing 1 k, 1 p, in rows: (odd number of stitches)

1st row: (WS) 2 p, *1 k, 1 p; repeat from * to last stitch, 1 k.

2nd row: (RS) *1 p, 1 k; repeat from * to last stitch, 1 k. Repeat 1st and 2nd rows as established.

 ABBREVIATIONS

SN1K (SLIP ONE, YARN OVER)

This is a combination of stitches that creates a stitch/yarn over pair, which is counted as one stitch. After a knit stitch or brk (brioche knit), bring the yarn forward between the needle tips, slip the next stitch purlwise and simultaneously bring the yarn over the needle behind the work. After a purl stitch or brp (brioche purl), with yarn in front, slip the next stitch purlwise and simultaneously bring the yarn over the needle behind the work.

BRK (BRIOCHE KNIT)

This is the brioche variant of the basic knit stitch, and it is worked the same as 2 brk. With the yarn behind the work, insert the tip of the right needle into the stitch and the corresponding yarn over knitwise. Knit them together as one knit stitch.

BRP (BRIOCHE PURL)

This is the brioche variant of the basic purl stitch, and it is worked the same as 2 brp. With yarn in front of the work, insert the tip of the right needle into the stitch and the corresponding yarn over purlwise. Purl them together as one purl stitch.

 BACK

On circular needles of smaller size, cast on 79 (89, 99, 109, 119, 129, 139) stitches using the Italian tubular method. Do not join in the round. Work in ribbing 1 k, 1 p for 7.5 cm, ending with a WS row. Change to larger circular needles. Knit in stockinette until the height of the piece reaches 19 cm from the cast-on edge, ending with a WS row.

SHAPING THE BACK

PREPARATORY ROW: (RS) 39 (44, 49, 54, 59, 64, 69) k, place marker (pm), 1 k, pm, knit to end of row. Work 1 WS row.

INCREASE ROW: (RS) knit to m, slip m (sl m), s1L (see glossary), knit to m, s1P (see glossary), sl m, knit to end of row - 2 stitches increased. Repeat the increase row every 2 rows for another 11 (11, 11, 11, 14, 14, 14) times, then every 4 rows for 7 (8, 9, 10, 9, 10, 11) times - 119 (131, 143, 155, 169, 181, 193) stitches.

Continue knitting until the piece measures 23 [24, 25.5, 26.5, 28, 29, 30.5] cm from the start of shaping, ending with a WS row. Bind off 39 (44, 49, 54, 59, 64, 69) stitches at the beginning of the next 2 rows - 41 (43, 45, 47, 51, 53, 55) stitches remain for the neck. Place the neck stitches on a holder.

 FRONT

On circular needles of smaller size, cast on 77 (89, 97, 105, 113, 125, 133) stitches using the Italian tubular method. Do not join in the round. Work in ribbing 1 k, 1 p for 7.5 cm, ending with a WS row. Mark the 19th (24th, 28th, 33rd, 37th, 42nd, 46th) stitch from each edge with closed m.

PREPARATORY ROW A: (RS) sl1 wyib, *1 k, sl1k; repeat from * to marked stitch, work the preparatory row of the arch chart on the next 21 stitches, sl1k, work the preparatory row of the arch chart again on the next 21 stitches, **sl1k, 1 k; repeat from ** to last stitch, 1 k.

PREPARATORY ROW B: (WS) sl1 wyif, *sl1k, 1 brk; repeat from * to last 2 stitches, sl1k, 1 p. Keeping the edge chain, continue to knit as established until the piece reaches a size of 19 cm from the cast-on edge, ending with “b” row with WS.

SHAPING THE FRONT

Mark the center stitch with closed m.

 SLEEVES

On circular needles of smaller size, cast on 49 (51, 55, 59, 59, 69, 75) stitches using the Italian tubular method. Do not join in the round. Work in ribbing 1 k, 1 p for 5 cm, ending with a WS row. Change to larger circular needles. Knit in stockinette until the size of the piece reaches 7.5 cm from the cast-on edge, ending with a WS row.

INCREASE ROW: 2 k, s1L, knit to last 2 stitches, s1P, 2 k - 2 stitches increased. Repeat the increase row every 2 rows for another 5 (7, 9, 11, 15, 11, 9) times, then every 4 rows for 7 (6, 5, 4, 2, 4, 5) times - 75 (79, 85, 91, 95, 101, 105) stitches.  ASSEMBLY

Block the pieces to the finished dimensions. Sew the shoulder seams, sleeve seams, and side seams.

 NECK-COWL

Return the held 39 (41, 43, 45, 47, 49, 51) stitches of the front neck, then 41 (43, 45, 47, 51, 53, 55) stitches of the back neck onto larger circular needles - 80 (84, 88, 92, 98, 102, 106) stitches. pm and join work in the round.
