White knitted jumper with the «Butterflies» pattern
A hand-knitted white women’s jumper with a delightful pattern from Japanese knitting masters. The design looks very beautiful. «Butterflies», with raised interlacing and lace paths, creates a cohesive pattern with a medium degree of lace. The pattern is challenging for beginners, since the motif is worked on both the right side and the wrong side. But if you really want to, with effort and especially careful attention, you can do it!
Size: 44-46 ‒ Russian; M ‒ international; 38-40 ‒ European.
Measurements: bust circumference ‒ 88-92 cm; waist circumference ‒ 68-72 cm; hip circumference ‒ 94-98 cm.
Need: 450 g white yarn «Cashmerino» (65% merino wool, 35% polyacrylate, 10% cashmere, 100 m/50 g); straight needles No. 4; circular needles No. 3.5.

Pattern «Butterflies» on 34 sts: knit according to Chart 1. Complete 1 repeat of motif «A» (rows 1–18), then repeat motif «B» (rows 19–50).
Attention! On the charts, wrong-side rows are shown as they look from the right side.
Slope shaping for the sleeves: follow Chart 2.
Neckline pattern on 13 sts: knit according to Chart 3.
Gauge: 25 stitches and 30 rows = 10 x 10 cm.
This is important!
● When reading the description, pay attention to the numbers in […] square brackets — this is the total number of stitches that should result after decreasing or increasing stitches.
● Be sure to begin knitting the back, front and sleeves from the 1st row of the pattern «Butterflies». Then along the lower edge of the finished piece pick up the same number of stitches as at the cast-on, knit 3 rounds of garter stitch and bind off the knit stitches as purl stitches. Then the bound-off row twists inward and is not visible. To avoid disrupting the neat waviness of the edge, it is not recommended to knit more rows.
Back
Cast on 122 sts and knit the pattern «Butterflies» in the following order:
rows 1–18: 1 edge; repeat 17-stitch motif «A» 7 times; 1 purl; 1 edge.
from row 19: 1 edge; repeat 34 sts of motif «B» 3 times; 17 sts of motif «A»; 1 purl; 1 edge.
Then repeat from rows 19–50.
At a height of 34.5 cm (= 104 rows) from the cast-on edge, for the armholes, bind off 5 sts on both sides, then in every 2nd row decrease once by 3 sts, 3 times by 2 sts, 2 times by 1 st, and 1 time by 1 st [= 88 sts]
After 17.5 cm (= 54 rows) from the start of the armholes, for the neckline, bind off the middle 42 sts and on both sides in the 2nd row decrease once by 3 sts.
At a height of 19 cm from the start of the armholes bind off 20 sts at each shoulder.
Along the lower (cast-on) edge pick up 122 sts, knit 3 rounds of garter stitch and bind off the knit stitches as purls.
Front
Knit as the back piece, but with a deeper neckline. To do this, at a height of 13.5 cm (= 42 rows) from the start of the armholes bind off the middle 24 sts and on both sides in every 2nd row: 1 time by 4 sts, 1 time by 3 sts, 1 time by 2 sts, 3 times by 1 st.
At a height of 19 cm from the start of the armholes bind off 20 sts at each shoulder.
Sleeve (2 pieces)
Cast on 54 sts and knit using the pattern «Butterflies» in the following order:
rows 1–18: 1 edge; repeat 17 sts of motif «A» 3 times; 1 purl; 1 edge.
from row 19: 1 edge; 17 sts of motif «A»; 34 sts of motif «B»; 1 purl; 1 edge.
Then repeat from rows 19–50.
For the slopes in the 19th row, on both sides, increase by 1 stitch and thereafter increase by 1 stitch every 8th row 10 times, then every 6th row 4 times [= 84 stitches] (see Chart 2).
In row 127 at a height of 42 cm for the cap, bind off on both sides 3 stitches, then in every 2nd row decrease: 1 time by 3 stitches, 4 times by 2 stitches, 7 times by 1 stitch, 4 times by 2 stitches, 1 time by 3 stitches.
At a height of 12 cm (= 36 rows) from the start of the cap, bind off the remaining 20 stitches.
Along the lower (cast-on) edge pick up 54 stitches, knit 3 rounds of garter stitch and bind off the knit stitches as purls.
Assembly
Moisten the finished jumper parts, lay them out, and let them dry.
Sew all seams.
For the placket along the neckline edge, pick up 117 stitches on circular needles and knit 19 rounds of the neckline pattern (repeat the 13-stitch repeat 9 times), while in the 17th round evenly decrease 8 stitches [= 109 stitches]. At the end, bind off knit stitches as purls.
Helpful tips
● At the beginning and end of knitting each piece of the garment, it is advisable to leave a free tail of working thread long enough to perform the seam when joining the pieces.
● Do not hang the knitted item on coat hangers, as it stretches under its own weight.
● Wash in moderately warm water using special detergents. Soak for 3 minutes, wring several times (but do not rub), then rinse thoroughly in cool water and gently wring out. Do not twist while wringing! Roll in a terry towel and wring again. Then lay flat to dry on a flat surface, preferably on thick fabric that breathes well.
● Do not iron or steam the knitted garment, to avoid spoiling the charm of the pattern’s relief! Just dampen lightly and let it dry flat.
