Description.
The FLEUR sweater is knitted raglan style from the top without a growth line. The silhouette is straight, and the sleeves are loose.
For this project, we will need:
Angora yarn 100/650m, KNIT WITH 2 THREADS.
Yarn consumption: XS 250g, S/M 300g L 350g.
• Needles #3 on a 60cm cable.
• Needles #3.5 on a 60cm cable.
• Needles #5 on a 60/80cm cable.
• Hook #2.5 and #4.
• Markers.
• Contrast thread.
Starting the work.
First, we need to knit a sample! This is mandatory.
For the sample, I cast on 20 stitches with #5 needles and knit in stockinette stitch.
Density after washing and blocking. In a 10x10cm square, there are 17 stitches and 22 rows. Accordingly, 1cm = 1.7 stitches; 2.2 rows.
*If you do not match the author's density on #5 needles, then you need to take larger or smaller needles. Otherwise, you will need to do all calculations on your own.
When knitting the sweater with different yarn, the consumption may differ from that of the original yarn.
Calculations.
Calculations are presented for sizes XS/S/M/L.
Size/ Chest circumference/ Number of stitches.
XS (40-42)/ 80-85 /136.
S (42-44)/ 86-90/136.
M (44-46)/ 91-96/ 140.
L (46-48)/ 97-102/ 144.
Knitting the sweater.
Using the contrast thread, cast on 136/136/140/144+1 (stitch for joining in the round) stitches with hook #4 on needles #3.
This method is called a long-tail cast on.
After finishing the cast on, check the stitches to ensure they are not twisted, the cast on braid is straight, and it is positioned inside the cable. Next, hold the needle with the cast on in your right hand and the needle with the end in your left hand, and join in the round. Pull the yarn tightly to avoid excessive stretching.
Knit the first row in stockinette stitch, then continue with a 2x2 ribbing (2 knit, 2 purl) for another 8 rows.
Distribute the stitches for the BACK, SLEEVES, and FRONT. Switch to #5 needles for the stitch distribution scheme.

L /360/22.
Our raglan is ready, the next step is to separate the sleeves from the "body".
To distribute the stitches, knit 2 knit stitches of the raglan line, 74/84/94/100 back stitches, then 2 knit stitches of the raglan line, 50/60/68/76 sleeve stitches using a knitting needle, transfer to a spare thread, cast on 2/2/4/4 chain stitches. Then knit 2 knit stitches of the raglan line, 74/84/94/100 front stitches, then 2 knit stitches of the raglan line, 50/60/68/76 sleeve stitches similarly transfer to the spare thread, cast on 2/2/4/4 chain stitches.
In the next row, knit the chain stitches twisted (through the back loop).
Knit the "body" of the sweater with 160/180/204/216 stitches in stockinette stitch for 28/30/32/34cm (the length of the sweater can be adjusted as desired).
Diagram 2
Then switch to #3.5 needles (60/80cm cable) and knit in 2x2 ribbing (for size XS/S 5-6cm; for size M/L 6-7cm).
Bind off the stitches of the ribbing in any elastic method that suits you. I use a crochet bind off.
Sweater sleeves.
For knitting the sleeves, we will need #5 needles on a 40cm cable, #5 double-pointed needles, or if you are familiar with the magic loop method, then #5 needles on a long cable.
Transfer the sleeve stitches from the spare thread to the cable needles, pick up 8/8/10/10 stitches from the underarm.
Diagram 3
Knit all the underarm stitches, some stitches can be knitted twisted to avoid holes, then knit 50/60/68/76 sleeve stitches, 4/4/5/5 underarm stitches, mark the beginning of the round.
A total of 58/68/78/86 stitches on the needles.
THEN FOR SIZES XS/S and M/L the rates of decreases will be different!
Size XS/S.
Row 1 – 1 knit, 2 together, 52/62 stockinette, 2 together, 1 knit.
Rows 2 - 9 according to the pattern (stockinette).
Then similarly to row 1, make decreases in the following rows:
10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60.
61 – 69 – stockinette.
On the needles 40/50 stitches.
Row 70 – for size XS no more decreases! Knit 5 more rows and switch to #3.5 needles, knit 2x2 ribbing for another 12 rows, bind off with a crochet.
*Before binding off and cutting the yarn, try it on and make sure the sleeve length is comfortable enough.
For size S.
Row 70 – 1 knit, 2 together, 48 stockinette, 2 together, 1 knit.
Rows 71 – 79 – stockinette.
Row 80 – 1 knit, 2 together, 46 stockinette, 2 together, 1 knit.
Rows 81-84 – stockinette.
Row 85 – 1 knit, 2 together, 44 stockinette, 2 together, 1 knit.
*Before binding off and cutting the yarn, try it on and make sure the sleeve length is comfortable enough.
Size M/L.
Row 1 – 1 knit, 2 together, 72/80 sleeve stitches, 2 together, 1 knit. On the needles 76/84 stitches.
Then knit in the round in stockinette, making decreases in the following rows:
4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, 28, 32, 40, 48, 56, 64, 72, 80.
Total on the needles 48/56 stitches.
No more decreases! Switch to #3.5 needles, knit ribbing.
2x2 for another 12 rows, bind off with a crochet.
*Before binding off and cutting the yarn, try it on and make sure the sleeve length is comfortable enough.
For size L, knit 5 more rows, switch to #3.5 needles, knit.
ribbing 2x2 for another 12 rows, bind off with a crochet.
Ruffles.
Now, let’s move on to the highlight of our sweater. Take #3.5 needles and unravel the cast-on edge.
Bind off the ribbing with hook #4 and along the bound-off stitches, pick up stitches for the ruffles with #3.5 needles. Using yarn overs, knit 4 stitches from each stitch.
The first row will be very tight, but you’ll have to endure. Knit to your desired height, for me it’s 6 rows, bind off the stitches in a non-elastic way (hook #2.5). Hide the yarn ends and send it for washing.
Washing and care.
I allow myself to wash angora products in the washing machine, on the "delicate wash" or "wool" setting, at 30 degrees, using a gel for washing and adding hair conditioner. I set the spin to 800 revolutions. Or hand wash with hair shampoo.
Lay flat on a towel on a flat surface, and after an hour or two, it's better to change the towel to a dry one.
The sweater dries from one day to 3 (if washed by hand), so be patient.
If you're scared to send it to the washing machine, you can soak the sweater in warm water for about 10-15 minutes, then rinse and spin in the machine at 800 revolutions, angora yarn fluffs up very well.
