Cuff and Leg.

To knit such socks on needles No. 2.25, cast on 56 stitches plus 1 for joining in the round. Distribute them evenly on four needles with 14 on each.

After joining in the round, knit 14 rows. This corresponds to 4 cm of knitted fabric.

  • Rows 1-14. Diagram No. 1 (row 1 of the diagram).

Then knit with needles No. 2.75 according to diagram No. 2 “Chinese Lace”. Repeat the pattern width 4 times. Knit in this way until the height of the leg reaches 14 cm from the edge of the cuff, or another desired size, finish at the eighth row of the diagram.

  • Rows 15-46. Diagram No. 2 pattern “Chinese Lace” (32 rows).

Tip from the website “Irena Handmade”: to avoid mistakes when working with the lace pattern, do not neglect the use of markers.

Reinforced Heel Wall.

Tip from the website “Irena Handmade”: when knitting the heel, use thinner needles.

At this stage, transfer stitches 1 and 4 from needles (27) to one, while 29 stitches from needles 2 and 3 (the upper panel of the sock) remain unused.

Needle 1: 13 stitches, Needle 4: 14 stitches.

Lace socks “Chinese Lace” - heel wall

Knit back and forth on 27 stitches to create a reinforced heel wall. A total of 28 rows. The edge stitches at the beginning of the row are always slipped unknitted, at the end of the row — always knit.

For convenience, renumber from the first row.

  • Row 1. 13 knit from the first needle. Turn the work.
  • Row 2. 1 edge, 12 purl from needle 1, 13 purl from needle 4, 1 edge. Turn the work.
  • Row 3. 1 edge, (1 knit, 1 stitch slip, yarn behind work) — repeat until the end of the row 12 times, 1 knit, 1 edge.
  • Row 4. 1 edge, 25 purl, 1 edge.

In this rhythm, alternating rows 3-4, knit another 24 rows (rows 5-27).

  • Row 28. Knit half the row to the center of the heel: 1 edge, 13 knit.

Form the turning part of the heel-arch of the lace sock (rows 29-38). For this, distribute the number of stitches of the heel wall as follows: 11 — 5 — 11 stitches.

  • Row 29 (right). 2 knit, 2 stitches knit together knitwise leaning left, 1 knit, turn the work.
Lace socks “Chinese Lace” - heel rounding 3
  • Row 30 (purl). 1 edge, 6 purl, 2 stitches knit together purlwise, 1 purl, turn the work.

Next, follow the decrease principle.

Lace socks “Chinese Lace” - heel rounding 4
  • All odd. 1 stitch slip as purl, yarn behind stitch, knit stitches until 1 stitch before the gap formed in the previous row, knit 2 stitches together knitwise leaning left (1 stitch from each side of the gap), 1 knit, turn the work.

  • All even. 1 stitch slip as purl, yarn in front of stitch, purl stitches until 1 stitch before the gap formed in the previous row, knit 2 stitches together purlwise (1 stitch from each side of the gap), 1 purl, turn the work.

Alternate even and odd rows until all heel stitches are knitted, finish with a purl row. There are 17 stitches left on the heel needle.

Instep Shaping.

After knitting the turning part of the heel-arch, shape the instep. Renumber from the first row again.

Lace socks “Chinese Lace” - adding stitches
  • Row 1.

Using the needle with heel stitches (17), cast on and knit 15 stitches along the side edge of the heel wall (needle 1).

With the next needle on the 29 held stitches of the front panel, continue the lace pattern (1 purl, (9 rows of the diagram) 2 times), these stitches can be distributed on two needles (needles 2 and 3).

Along the second side edge of the heel wall, use the fourth needle to cast on and knit 15 stitches, then knit the first 9 stitches from needle 1.

In total, there are 76 stitches on the needles: 23 on needle 1, 24 on needle 4, 29 — on needles 2 and 3. Next, knit one round without decreases (upper 10 rows of the diagram).

  • Rows 3-21.

Continue shaping the lace sock foot in rounds and perform 10 even decreases every other row (two stitches).

Needle 1 — knit stitches until the last two stitches, knit 2 together knitwise leaning right; needles 2 and 3 — continue knitting the front panel pattern according to the diagram; needle 4 — knit 2 together knitwise leaning left “over”, knit stitches until the end of the row.

In row 21 the total number of stitches on the needles equals the initial (56).

Foot.

Knit in rounds, working the lace pattern on the upper panel of the sock, and stockinette stitch on the lower.

  • Rows 22-40. Diagram No. 2 pattern “Chinese Lace” (rows 6-24 of the diagram).
  • Rows 41-42. Diagram No. 2 pattern “Chinese Lace” (rows 1-2 of the diagram).
Lace socks “Chinese Lace” - foot

Knit the foot to 17 cm in length, or to a size that is 5 cm shorter than desired, finish at 2 rows of the knitting pattern (diagram No. 2 pattern “Chinese Lace”).

Tip from the website “Irena Handmade”: if you can't finish with the required row, knit a little less (or more) rows of lace pattern, then you can knit stockinette stitch to the required length of the foot.

  • Rows 43-44. Diagram No. 3 stockinette stitch.

Ribbon Toe.

Knit the ribbon toe in stockinette stitch (about 5 cm), making decreases according to diagram No. 4:

Lace socks “Chinese Lace” - sewing the toe

on the needles of the upper panel (1 and 3) knit the third and second from the end stitches together knitwise, and on the needles of the lower panel (2 and 4) — the second and third stitches together leaning left.

Once there are 16 stitches left on the needles, distribute them as follows: place 8 stitches from the upper panel of the lace sock on one needle, and 8 from the lower panel on another. Then, they should be sewn together with the Kitchener stitch.
