Simple knitted top

This stunning top is knitted in the pillowcase principle - no patterns, armholes, or complex calculations. Just two rectangles sewn together at the shoulder and side seams.

The highlight of the fabric is the lovely pattern, which is easier to knit than it looks. The knots on the fabric are simply a wrapping of the knitted stitches with yarn.

Pattern breakdown

The number of stitches should be a multiple of three. For the first three rows after the ribbing, we knit in stockinette stitch. In the fourth row, we start outlining the knots. We knit 6 stitches, transfer three stitches to a spare needle, and wrap them with the working yarn twice - we move the yarn to the back, bring it to the front, and then back to the back and to the front again.

We return the stitches to the main needle - we have created a knot. Then we knit 6 more stitches and make a knot-wrap again with the last three stitches. We continue this until the end of the row.

Then we knit 6 rows of stockinette stitch (in flat knitting, knit and purl respectively). In the seventh row, we make knots again, but place them in a checkerboard pattern over the previous ones.

Needles and yarn

The top in the photo is knitted from fairly dense cotton. Local yarn like Jeans from Yarn Art would be a good choice. Needles 3.5 - 5, depending on your knitting density. I would use a size 4 on a metal cable. The fabric should not be dense. After all, cotton tends to shrink. You will need 4-5 skeins for sizes up to 48.

The top is knitted in one breath and is a wonderful addition to a summer wardrobe.
