As seen from the diagram, the knitting pattern consists of three parts. In the center of the diagram is the pattern rapport, which is its main part that can be repeated several times depending on the width of the knitted fabric. The number of stitches in the rapport varies in height, which creates a volumetric pattern. On the edges of the fabric, at some distance from the rapport, there are two edges (left and right). The space is shown conditionally for clarity of the diagram and to avoid mistakes when executing the pattern.

The knitting of the pattern "Alsatian scallops" starts from the purl side of the fabric. Therefore, in the diagram, unlike the usual arrangement of rows, odd rows are placed on the left, even rows on the right. All odd rows are the purl side.

The stitches in the diagram are shown as they should be knitted.
