The number of stitches is a multiple of 4 3 for symmetry 2 edge stitches. The number of stitches increases in rows 1 and 5 and decreases in rows 3 and 7.
Cast on stitches with color A (white).
Row 1 (right side), color A: edge, 1 knit, *from one stitch make (knit, yarn over, knit), 3 knit,* from one stitch make (knit, yarn over, knit), 1 knit, edge.
Row 2, color B: edge, 1 purl, slip 3 stitches with yarn in front, *3 purl, slip 3 stitches with yarn in front,* 1 purl, edge.
Row 3, color B: edge, *2 together knit with a right slant, slip 1 stitch, yarn behind, 2 together knit with a left slant, 1 knit,* instead of the last knit stitch, knit edge.
Row 4, color A: edge, 3 purl, *slip 1 stitch, yarn in front, 3 purl,* edge.
Row 5, color A: edge, *3 knit, from one stitch make (knit, yarn over, knit),* 3 knit, edge.
Row 6, color B: edge, 3 purl, *slip 3 stitches with yarn in front, 3 purl,* edge.
Row 7, color B: edge, 2 knit, *2 together knit with a right slant, slip 1 stitch, yarn behind, 2 together knit with a left slant, 1 knit,* 1 knit, edge.
