Snood size: 30*70 cm
For knitting the snood I used: Nord yarn (48% wool, 52% acrylic, 116m/100g), used exactly 200g, needles number 4.5, 4 buttons.
The snood is quite simple to knit and is accessible even to beginner knitters. The pattern turns out to be quite striking.
I have a snood with buttons, so it is not knitted in the round. The buttons unbutton :)
Let's start knitting, casting on a number of stitches that is a multiple of 10 + 2 edge stitches. For me, this is 52 stitches.
Knit 3 cm in garter stitch, i.e., all stitches are knit stitches.
Next, we move on to the butterfly pattern:
Row 1: 1 edge, 5 knit, then place the yarn in front of the work and slip 5 stitches, then again 5 knit, slip 5 stitches with the yarn in front, repeat this to the end of the row, last edge.
Row 2 and all even rows are knitted in purl stitches.
Thus, we knit 10 rows, so that we have 5 stripes of unknitted yarn.
After we have knitted 10 rows, we knit row 11 as follows (forming butterflies): 1 edge, 5 knit, now our butterfly: 2 knit, now we insert the needle under the 5 unknitted yarns and knit with the 3rd stitch as a knit, 2 knit, etc., again 5 knit, butterfly, and so on to the end.
Next, we knit the butterflies from the beginning of the row, i.e.
Row 13: 1 edge, *5 stitches slip with the yarn in front, 5 knit* and so on to the end of the row. Thus, the butterflies will be arranged in a checkerboard pattern.
So we knit the snood to your desired length; I got 15 repeats with butterflies or 64 cm.
Next, we again knit 3 cm in garter stitch (all stitches are knit), but after 1.5 cm, we make buttonholes.
To form the buttonholes, we knit the row as follows: 1 edge, 2 knit, close 2 stitches, then 13 knit, close 2 stitches, and repeat this 2 more times, ending with 1 knit and 1 edge.
In the next row, over the closed stitches, we need to cast on 2 stitches. And then we knit another 1.5 cm in height and close all stitches.
