Pattern Description

USE DOUBLE STRAND YARN.

The number of stitches is a multiple of 2. The edge stitches are not included in the description.

Row 1: [ 1 knit stitch, make a double yarn over (wrap the working yarn around the right needle 2 times) and slip the next stitch purlwise. ] repeat to the end of the row.

Row 2: [ Knit 1 stitch (from the previous row, this is the slipped stitch), transfer the yarn over from the left needle to the right without knitting (the yarn over is released, resulting in 1 long yarn over), 1 knit stitch] repeat to the end of the row.

Row 3: [ 1 knit stitch, slip the next stitch with the yarn over (this stitch will have 2 yarn overs)] repeat to the end of the row.

Row 4: [ Knit 1 stitch with two yarn overs, 1 knit stitch] repeat to the end of the row.

Starting from row 5, we do everything in a checkerboard pattern:

Row 5: [ make a yarn over, double yarn over and slip the next stitch purlwise, 1 knit stitch.] repeat to the end of the row.

Row 6: [1 knit stitch, knit 1 stitch (from the previous row, this is the slipped stitch), transfer the yarn over from the left needle to the right without knitting (the yarn over becomes elongated)] repeat to the end of the row.

Row 7: [ slip stitch with yarn over (this stitch will have 2 yarn overs) 1 knit stitch.] repeat to the end of the row.

Row 8: [ 1 knit stitch, knit 1 stitch with two yarn overs.] repeat to the end of the row.

Repeat the pattern starting from row 1."
