Pattern "braid" from long stitches

The pattern "braid" with long stitches is suitable for knitting sweaters, cardigans, hats, and snoods.

The pattern repeat in width consists of 6 stitches + 2 edge stitches.

Row 1 (wrong side): edge stitch, knit all stitches purlwise and make a yarn over after each stitch, the last edge stitch is purl.

Row 2 (right side): edge stitch, *slip 6 stitches, dropping the yarn overs, pulling long stitches onto the right needle. Then with the left needle pick up the first three long stitches and place them over the remaining three stitches, which should be moved to the left needle. Now knit the crossed stitches in order knitwise*. Repeat **, slipping and pulling 6 stitches, crossing them and knitting them knitwise, the last edge stitch is purl.

Row 3 (wrong side): edge stitch, 3 purl stitches, then knit the stitches purlwise and make a yarn over after each stitch, the last 3 stitches are knitted purlwise without yarn overs, edge stitch – purl.

Row 4 (right side): edge stitch, 3 knit stitches, *slip 6 stitches, dropping the yarn overs, pulling long stitches onto the right needle. Then with the left needle pick up the first three long stitches and place them over the remaining three stitches, which should be moved to the left needle. Now knit the crossed stitches in order knitwise*. Repeat **, slipping and pulling 6 stitches, crossing them and knitting them knitwise, the last 3 stitches are knitted knitwise, edge stitch is purl.
