To knit the pattern in rows, you need to cast on a number of stitches that is a multiple of 3 + 2 stitches for symmetry + 2 edge stitches.
Row 1: edge stitch *2 purl stitches, then from 1 stitch you need to knit 2 knit stitches (first knit the stitch through the front, then through the back)*, 2 purls, edge stitch.
Row 2: edge stitch *2 knit stitches, then knit 2 stitches together with 1 purl stitch*, 2 knits, edge stitch.
Row 3: edge stitch, *all stitches are knitted as knit stitches*, edge stitch.
Row 4: edge stitch, *all stitches are knitted as purl stitches*, edge stitch.
Continue knitting repeating rows 1-4.
