Beautiful buds are knitted with needles quite easily. Each bud is formed from elongated stitches of the previous rows of the knitted fabric. This decorative element of knitting will embellish any pattern. Even knitting such buds on a stockinette stitch in a checkerboard pattern will create an interesting design.
After knitting to the point of forming the bud, insert the needle into the stitch one row below.
Grab the working yarn from the back with the needle and pull a long loop to the level of all the stitches.
Now make a yarn over.
Again insert the needle into the stitch two rows below, grab the working yarn, and pull the second long loop to the level of the first. Make a yarn over.
Next, similarly pull loops from stitches three and four rows below, making yarn overs in between. Pull the last long loop from five rows below; the more loops you pull, going lower in the row, the fuller and larger the bud will be.
Now move all the long loops from the right needle to the left.
Take a hook, insert it into the bundle of long loops and remove it from the left needle.
Now insert the hook into the stitch on the left needle, grab the working yarn, and knit this stitch and the entire bundle of long loops from the hook. Drop the knitted stitch from the left needle, and move the new stitch from the hook to the right needle.
Then knit a row of knit stitches to the next place of knitting the bud.
In the purl row, knit all the stitches as usual purlwise. The back of the buds looks the same as the front.
This pattern with buds can be used to knit a stylish sweater, hat, or bag.
