pattern diagram

The image shows how to crochet bulky and concave relief double crochets in crochet.

📌 Technique for making elements:

🔸 Bulky stitches (Fig. 24):

  • Also called relief stitches from the front.

  • Worked around the body of the stitch from the previous row from the front, inserting the hook from the front behind the stitch.

  • Yarn over is done over the stitch.

  • When crocheting, a relief is formed that protrudes on the front side.

📷 In the diagram and photo — relief vertical "tracks".

🔸 Concave stitches (Fig. 25):

  • Also relief stitches, but worked around the stitch from the back side.

  • The hook is inserted from back to front (behind the stitch).

  • It creates a recessed relief — as if sunk.

🔹 Symbols on the diagram:

  • O — 3 chain stitches for rise.

  • | — regular double crochet stitch.

  • ⊃ — bulky relief stitch.

  • ⊂ — concave relief stitch.

📘 Description of the pattern (on the left diagram):

Repeat from row 1 to row 8:

  • Even rows (2, 4, 6, 8): regular double crochets (|).

  • Odd rows (1, 3, 5, 7): alternating bulky and concave stitches:
3 bulky, 3 concave — and so on to the end of the row.

➡️ This pattern creates a tactile relief and is perfect for warm items: scarves, blankets, cuffs.

Description:

"When crocheting a double crochet stitch from the back, this stitch is called a relief back stitch or concave"

  • The hook is inserted from the back (behind the stitch of the previous row).

  • It wraps around the "body" of the stitch from behind.

  • Thus, the stitch goes inside the fabric, creating a depression on the front side.

"When crocheting a double crochet stitch from the front, this stitch is called a relief front stitch or bulky"

  • The hook is inserted in front of the fabric, wrapping around the stitch of the previous row from the front.
