Once, I came across a photo of an incredibly beautiful blanket on social media; at first, I couldn't understand how it was knitted. But then I figured out that the pattern used crossed columns.

I was guided by the above photo of a beautiful blanket and chose yarn in bright shades of three colors. (I had semi-wool yarn) I took a hook with a size of 2.7.

We start by making a chain of air stitches of the required length.

In the 1st row, we knit simple double crochet stitches.

In the 2nd row: 4 chains, skip two base stitches, then knit two front double crochets. To do this, make two yarn overs, insert the hook under the body of the previous row’s double crochet, pull up a longer working loop, and yarn over to pull through the loops one by one. Similarly, knit the second front double crochet.

The next two double crochets are knitted by inserting the hook under the body of the first and second double crochets of the previous row, i.e., we return to the beginning of the row. The crocheted double crochets will overlap the first two crocheted double crochets.

Skip the next two base stitches, then 2 front double crochets, followed by 2 front double crochets on the two previous double crochets.

Thus, we continue to knit the entire row.

Once again, I will repeat: first, we knit front double crochets under the 3rd and 4th double crochets of the previous row, and then under the 1st and 2nd.

At the end of the row, we knit one double crochet into the last base stitch.

This is how crossed double crochets are created.

We turn the work.

In the 3rd row: 2 chains for raising, then we knit single crochets, inserting the hook sequentially into each base stitch (i.e., as in regular crocheting).

We also knit all odd (wrong) rows in the same way.

In the 4th row: we knit similarly to the 2nd, but the double crochets should be crossed from the bottom.

At the beginning of the row 4 chains, 2 regular single crochets, skip 2 base stitches, 2 front double crochets.

When knitting the next crossed double crochets, we insert the hook under the body of the 3rd double crochet of the previous row, so that it goes under the just knitted front double crochets, pull up a loop and yarn over to pull through with the yarn overs on the hook.

We knit the second crossed front double crochet.

Next, when knitting, we alternate the pattern according to the description of the 2nd row and the 4th.

We obtain crossed double crochets on top in one row and crossed double crochets from the bottom in another row.

I must say that it didn’t come easily to me at first, but then I got the hang of it.

The fabric knitted with this pattern is quite dense, and the reverse side is not very attractive, with a sort of ribbing.

The downside of this pattern is that it consumes quite a lot of yarn.

So the yarn I started using to knit the pillow unexpectedly ran out.

The pattern of front crossed double crochets is well suited, I think, for children's blankets with a lining, and you can also make a very beautiful luxurious bag.
