Rib: alternating 1 knit and 1 purl.
Stockinette stitch: right-side rows - knit stitches, wrong-side rows - purl stitches.

Cable pattern B (on 26 sts): knit according to chart 2. It shows RS rows. In the WS rows, work the stitches as indicated. In height, repeat rows 1–12.
Gauge: 26 sts x 30 rows = 10 x 10 cm, in stockinette; 53 sts x 35 rows = 14 x 10 cm, in patterns of cable A and B. Samples knit on needles No. 3.5.
Back: with needles No. 3, cast on 74(80) 86 (94) sts and knit for the lower band 2 cm in rib. Switch to needles No. 3.5 and continue in stockinette. After 16 (17) 17 (19) cm from the lower band bind off on both sides to shape the armholes: first time 3 sts, then in every 2nd row 1 more time 2 sts and 3 times 1 stitch = on needles 58 (64) 70 (78) sts.
For sizes 1 and 2, after 22 (24) cm from the lower band begin shaping the opening for the fastening: on the first 32 (35) sts continue to knit the right side, while on the left edge finish with 1 knit, 1 purl, 1 knit, 1 purl, 2 knit. The remaining 26(29) sts temporarily set aside. After 28(30) cm from the lower band bind off on the right edge for the shoulder slope
1x4 (5) sts and in the next 2nd row again 4 (5) sts. Simultaneously with the start of the shoulder slope, bind off on the inner edge to shape the neckline 1 time 12 (13) sts and in the next 2nd row again 7 sts. After 29 (31) cm from the lower band bind off in one row the remaining 5 sts of the shoulder. Then transfer the remaining stitches to the working needle and pick up along the inner edge for the button placket 6 new stitches = on needles 32(35) stitches. From the right edge start with 2 knit, 1 purl, 1 knit, 1 purl, and end the left side symmetrically.
For sizes 3 and 4, after 31 (35) cm from the lower band bind off on both sides for shoulder slopes 1 time 4 sts and in every 2nd row 2 times 4 (5) sts. Simultaneously with the start of the shoulder seams, bind off the middle 12 (14) sts to form the neckline and thereafter each side knit separately.
To round the neckline, bind off on the inner edge in every 2nd row 1 time 4 (5) 6 (7) sts, 1 time 1 stitch, 2 times 2 sts and 2 times 1 st. After 33 (37) cm from the lower band bind off in one row the remaining 5 sts of the shoulder. Finish the second side symmetrically.
Front: with needles No. 3, cast on 74 (80) 86 (94) sts and knit for the lower band 2 cm in rib. Switch to needles No. 3.5 and continue, distributing pattern stitches as follows (while in the first row evenly increase 17 sts = on needles 91 (97) 103 (111) sts): 15 (18) 21 (25) sts of stockinette, 4 sts garter stitch, 53 sts of cable pattern A, 4 sts garter stitch, 15 (18) 21 (25) sts of stockinette.
Armholes to be worked to the same height as back and as described for the back = on needles 75 (81) 87 (95) sts. After 24 (26) 28 (32) cm from the lower band bind off to shape the neckline the middle 17 (19) 21 (23) sts and thereafter each side to be worked separately.
To round the neckline, bind off on the inner edge in every 2nd row 1 time 4 (5) 6 (7) sts, 1 time 1 stitch, 2 times 2 sts and 2 times 1 st. After 28 (30) 31 (35) cm from the lower band bind off to shape the shoulder slope 1 time 5 (5) 4 (5) sts and in every 2nd row 1 time 5 sts (1 time 6 sts) 1 time 4 sts and 1 time 5 sts (2 times 5 sts). The remaining 6 (6) 5 (5) sts of the shoulder to be bound off at the same height as the back. Finish the second side symmetrically.
Sleeves: with needles No. 3, cast on 46 (48) 52 (54) sts and knit for the cuff 2 cm in rib. Switch to needles No. 3.5 and continue, distributing pattern stitches as follows (in the first row evenly increase 8 sts = on needles 54 (56) 60 (62) sts): 10 (11) 13 (14) sts knit, 4 sts garter, 26 sts of cable pattern B, 4 sts garter, 10 (11) 13 (14) sts knit.
Simultaneously, starting from the cuff, increase on both sides for shaping 6 times every 6th row and 2 times every 8th row (10 times every 6th row) 2 times every 8th row and 8 times every 6th row (2 times every 4th row and 12 times every 6th row) by 1 stitch knit = on needles 70 (76) 80 (90) sts. After 17 (19) 20 (24.5) cm from the cuff begin shaping the cap: bind off on both sides 1 time 4 (5) 6 (5) sts, then in every 2nd row 1 time 3 sts, 5 times 2 sts, 1 time 3 sts and 1 time 4 sts (2 times 4 sts, 3 times 2 sts, 2 times 4 sts and 1 time 5 sts). After 22 (24) 25 (29.5) cm from the cuff bind off in one row the remaining 22 sts. Knit the second sleeve similarly.
Assembly: sew shoulder seams.
On circular needles No. 3, pick up along the edge of the neckline 79 (85) 86 (92) sts and knit for the collar 1.5 cm in rib (for sizes 1 and 2 knit back-and-forth, for sizes 3 and 4 in the round), then bind off the collar stitches. Sew in the sleeves, matching the center of the sleeve to the shoulder seam. Sew side seams and sleeve seams. For sizes 1 and 2, attach the button placket along the short side. Sew on buttons in the corresponding places.
