Garter stitch: when knitting in rows, all stitches are knit
Gauge: 1 cm = 2 stitches
Description of work
The hat is knitted in garter stitch in the transverse direction. The ear flaps and turn-up are formed by casting on additional stitches and, upon reaching the required width, binding them off.
Cast on 46 stitches (23 cm x 2 stitches) = 46 stitches. Knit 4 cm in garter stitch. Then cast on an additional 40 stitches for the ear flap. Knit the required number of rows so that its width is 16 cm. Bind off 40 ear-flap stitches, and on the next right-side row cast on 20 additional stitches for the turn-up. When the required width of the turn-up is reached, bind off 20 stitches on the wrong side row. In the next right-side row, again cast on the stitches of the second ear flap and knit it. Bind off 40 ear-flap stitches and complete the second part of the back on 46 stitches (4 cm)
At the end of the work, you need to sew the back seam. If necessary, finish the lower edge of the ushanka with any convenient method. Secure the turn-up.
