Size: for an adult person. Beret circumference: 48 cm.
Height: 24 cm.
Materials:
• 2 skeins of "Bamboo &
Pearls DK" yarn from Sublime (50g/95m, 70% bamboo – based on viscose, 30% pearl – based on viscose) in Thai tea color.
• Circular needles 2.75 mm, 40 cm long.
• Circular needles 4 mm, 40 cm long.
• Set of double-pointed needles 4 mm.
Green beret
Lace pattern: 1 repeat = 8 cm wide and 5 cm high.
Alternative yarn types:
• For a summer version: Flirt DK from Sirdar, Amalfi from Debbie Bliss or Lenpur Linen from Rowan.
• For a warmer option: Essentials Merino DK from Rico, Grace from Louisa Harding or Cashmere Merino Silk DK from Sublime.
Special abbreviations:
• Dec.2: slip 2 sts together knitwise, 1 knit, pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 sts decreased)
• Dec.3: slip 3 sts purlwise, yarn at the back, 1 knit, pass each slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (3 sts decreased)
• Dec.4: slip 3 sts purlwise, yarn at the back, knit 2 together, pass each slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (4 sts decreased).
I – cord

Move the stitches back to the left needle; repeat from *, = this will form a tube of knit stitches.
Work description
Using 2.75 mm needles, cast on 144 sts. Join in the round, ensuring that the stitches are not twisted, and place a marker at the beginning of the round.
1st round: *k2 together, but do not remove them from the left needle, knit another stitch through the 1st stitch of them, drop them from the left needle, 1 purl; repeat from * to end of the round.
2nd round: *k2, 1 purl; repeat from * to end of the round.
Repeat these 2 rounds 5 times, = 10 rounds.
Switch to 4 mm needles, knit in lace pattern as described below, or according to the chart:
1st round: *dec.3, (yarn over, 1 knit) 5 times, yarn over, k4 together, 5 purl; repeat from * to end of the round.
2nd-4th rounds: *13 knits, 5 purls; repeat from * to end of the round.
5th round: *dec.3, (yarn over, 1 knit) 5 times, yarn over, k4 together, 5 purl; repeat from * to end of the round.
6th-8th rounds: *13 knits, 5 purls; repeat from * to end of the round.
9th round: *yarn over, 1 knit, yarn over, k4 together, 5 purl, dec.3, (yarn over, 1 knit) 4 times; repeat from * to end of the round.
10th-12th rounds: *4 knits, 5 purls, 9 knits; repeat from * to end of the round.
13th round: *yarn over, 1 knit, yarn over, k4 together, 5 purl, dec.3, (yarn over, 1 knit) 4 times; repeat from * to end of the round.
14th-16th rounds: *4 knits, 5 purls, 9 knits; repeat from * to end of the round.
Repeat these 16 rounds 3 times, for a total of 48 rounds.
Decreases
Note: switch to double-pointed needles when there are few stitches left.
1st round: *dec.3, yarn over, pass over (= 1 st slip, 1 knit, pass the slipped stitch over), yarn over, 1 knit, yarn over, k2 together, yarn over, k4 together, pass over, 1 purl, k2 together; repeat from * to end of the round, = 96 sts.
2nd-4th rounds: *9 knits, 3 purls; repeat from * to end of the round.
5th round: *dec.3, yarn over, 1 knit, yarn over, k4 together, 3 purls; repeat from * to end of the round, = 64 sts.
6th-7th rounds: *5 knits, 3 purls; repeat from * to end of the round.
8th round: *5 knits, 3 purls; repeat from * to the marker at the end of the round, remove the marker, 2 knits, place the marker. This is the new beginning of the round.
9th round: *1 purl, dec.2, yarn over, 1 knit, yarn over, k3 together; repeat from * to end of the round, = 48 sts.
10th-12th rounds: *1 purl, 5 knits; repeat from * to end of the round.
13th round: *1 purl, dec.4; repeat from * to end of the round, = 16 sts.
14th-16th rounds: *1 purl, 1 knit; repeat from * to end of the round.
17th round: k2 together to the end of the round, = 8 sts.
18th round: k2 together to the end of the round, = 4 sts.
Make I – cord on the remaining 4 sts for 4 rounds. k4 together, cut the yarn and pull its end through the remaining stitch (close it).
