⠀
⠀⠀My measurements: palm circumference (without the thumb) 17.5 cm, thumb height 5 cm, palm height to the little finger 14 cm, total palm height 17 cm. Gauge 22 stitches x 31 rows. You can recalculate for your size.
⠀
⠀⠀Let's get started, knitting with 2 main + 2 additional yarns.
⠀On double-pointed needles 3, cast on 40 stitches +1 for joining. If you are knitting with double-pointed needles, then 10 on each needle, 11 on the last one. Join the knitting in the round. Knit ribbing 1x1 to the desired height. I have pink for 14 rows, sandy with a "rice" pattern for 30 rows (elongated).
⠀
⠀⠀Switch to needles number 4. Next, knit in stockinette stitch. In the very first row, we begin to make increases for the thumb in every odd row as follows:
⠀⠀right mitten at the end of the row (before this increase, place a marker for convenience) from the previous stitch of the previous row through the back loop;
⠀⠀left mitten at the beginning of the row (place a marker) from the next stitch of the previous row through the front loop. The next row is knit in stockinette. A total of 12 increases. Transfer 12 stitches to the additional yarn and continue knitting in the round, in my case this is 24 rows, or 0.5-1 cm before the end of the index finger.
⠀
⠀⠀Decreases are made in EVERY row: knit the first stitch, slip the 2nd, knit the 3rd and pull it through the slipped stitch, or simply put, knit 2 together leaning to the left, 14 knit stitches, knit 2 together leaning to the right, 1 knit, 1 knit, knit 2 together leaning to the left, 14 knit stitches, knit 2 together leaning to the right, 1 knit. Decrease to 4 stitches, pull tight.
⠀
⠀⠀Transfer the finger to the needles 12 stitches, distributing them as 2 - 4 - 4 - 2. Start the row, picking up 2 stitches at the beginning of the row, 12 knit stitches, then pick up another 2. A total of 16 stitches. Knit 12 rows or 0.5 cm before the end of the finger. Decreases in EVERY row for the right mitten: knit 2 together to the left, 2 knit stitches, *repeat to the end of the row. For the left - 2 knit, 2 together to the right. Decrease to 4 stitches, pull tight, weave in the ends.
