Cast on 31 sts.

Beginning of the pattern:

Note: read before continuing with the knitting.

1st row (right side): Knit according to pattern 1 for 10 sts for the edge, place a marker, knit 1 st according to pattern 2 for the shawl, place a marker, knit according to pattern 3 for 20 sts for the edge.

Continue according to the patterns and move each subsequent marker:

Edge (border): knit 2 rows of the repeat according to pattern 1 to the end.

Shawl:

Knit according to pattern 2 up to the 68th row, then start with pattern 4.

Knit 5 times from the 1st to the 44th row according to pattern 4, starting with 1 repeat of 20 sts, increasing by 1 repeat each time (5th time according to pattern 4 = 5 repeats), then knit 1 time the transition rows 1 and 2 (T1 and T2) for the center of the shawl, completing 5 repeats = 131 sts of the shawl.

Begin with pattern 5, knitting 5 times from the 1st to the 44th row, starting with 5 repeats of 20 sts, decreasing by 1 repeat each time (5th time according to pattern 5 = 1 repeat), then start pattern 6, knitting 1 time from the 1st to the 63rd row.

Border:

Knit according to pattern 3 up to the 48th row, then repeat from the 5th to the 48th row, when 6 repeats have been completed, knit from the 5th to the 24th row, then repeat the 23rd and 24th rows one more time (for the center of the shawl these rows will correspond to the transition rows 1 and 2 at the end of the 5th repeat of pattern 4), then knit to the 48th row, continue to repeat from the 5th to the 48th row as before, until 12 repeats have been completed, then knit one more time from the 5th to the 43rd row.

Bind off the remaining 34 sts.
