Grandmother's Square Crochet Scheme

To crochet the entire blanket, you need yarn:

  • main color (mine is white),
  • many different colors of yarn for the volumetric flowers.

According to the pictures, those who crochet will easily understand the crochet scheme. Additionally, I marked with black color where and how many

  • double crochets (DC, shown in the picture with a stick and a small perpendicular line),
  • single crochets (SC, shown in the picture with a cross),
  • chain stitches (CH, shown in the picture with black dots).

I will also briefly write explanations for the pictures.

Let's start crocheting the flower

1. Let's begin crocheting the center of the flower.
We crochet a chain of 6 CH with the main color — white. Then we crochet 8 SC in a circle.

2. Change the yarn (mine is red). We crochet in a circle (1DC, 2 CH) * 8 times. There will be a circle of 8 DC, with 2 CH between every two DC.

3. Let's move on to the petals.
We crochet 4 CH and attach them to the adjacent DC.

4. We crochet 5 DC into these 4 CH that were crocheted in the previous step.

5. We crochet 5 DC onto the DC from which we started crocheting the 4 CH in step #4.

6. We secure our petal, as shown in the picture.

7. Again we crochet 4 CH for the next petal.

8. We repeat steps 3-6 another 7 times to crochet the next seven petals. We get a finished flower.

We crochet the base of the square

9. We turn the flower with the back side up; we will crochet the white base from the back side.

10. Change the color to the main one — white. We have 8 petals. At the beginning of the petal, we crochet SC, then 4 CH, and again crochet SC at the beginning of the next petal, followed by 4 CH, etc., until the end of the flower. The next round will be crocheted with single crochets. At the beginning of the petal, we crochet SC, then on the previous 4 CH, we crochet 5 SC, again at the beginning of the next petal, we crochet SC, and then 5 SC on the previous round's 4 CH, etc., until the end of the round.

11. The next round is crocheted as shown in the picture. I think it's clearer in the picture than I can describe it now.

12. The next round is also clearer to read from the picture. You can finish the square at this point, then the blanket will resemble the option that originally inspired me — large flowers with just a little of the white base visible beneath the flower. But I will say right away that in this version, the square will be quite small if thick yarn is not used from the beginning.

13. In my scheme, I decided to make one more round in white, then the square becomes more standard, with a size of approximately 10*10 cm. Let's look at the last round according to the scheme in the picture.
