Pullover with a front detail of braids and a "scoop" neckline.
Sizes: Small, Medium, Large, X-Large, and XX-Large. The size shown in the photo is Small.
Finished measurements:
Chest circumference: 86.5 (97.5, 108, 117, 127) cm
Length: 56 (57, 58.5, 59.5, 61) cm
Width of the sleeve at the top: 35.5 (37, 38, 40.5, 42) cm.
You will need:
6 (7, 8, 9, 9) skeins of Cocoon yarn from Rowan in frost color or frost number 806 (wool, mohair), 115 m/100 g;
needles 6 and 7 mm or another size to achieve the required knitting density;
stitch markers, safety pin;
auxiliary needle for braids.
Knitting density:
stockinette stitch on larger needles: 15 sts and 18 rows = 10 x 10 cm.
Be sure to knit a sample.
Abbreviations:
8 sts cross to the right: slip 4 sts onto the auxiliary needle behind work, knit 4 sts and then 4 sts from the auxiliary needle.
8 sts cross to the left: slip 4 sts onto the auxiliary needle in front of work, knit 4 sts and then 4 sts from the auxiliary needle.
Back:
Cast on 66 (74, 82, 86, 94) sts on smaller needles.
1st row (RS): 2 knit sts, * 2 purl sts, 2 knit sts; repeat from * to end of row.
Continue ribbing with 2 knit sts and 2 purl sts until the length of the piece measures 7 cm from the start, finish with a purl row and evenly decrease 2 (2, 2, 0, 0) sts along the last row = 64 (72, 80, 86, 94) sts.
Change to larger needles.
Starting with the RS, knit in stockinette stitch (RS - knit sts, WS - purl sts) until the length of the piece measures 33 cm from the start, finish with a purl row.
Armhole:
At the beginning of the next 2 rows, bind off 3 (4, 5, 6, 7) sts.
1st row (with decreases, RS): 1 knit st, yarn over, knit to the last 3 sts, knit 2 together, 1 knit st.
2nd row (with decreases, WS): 1 purl st, knit 2 together, purl to the last 3 sts, knit 2 together through the back loop, 1 purl st.
Repeat the 1st row with decreases in the next row, then in every 2nd row for another 2 (3, 4, 4, 5) times = 48 (52, 56, 60, 64) sts.
Knit straight until the length of the armhole measures 20.5 (21.5, 23, 24, 25.5) cm, finish with a purl row.
Shoulders:
At the beginning of the next 4 rows, bind off 3 (4, 5, 6, 7) sts.
Place the remaining 36 sts on an auxiliary needle for the back neckline. Front:
Cast on 74 (82, 90, 98, 106) sts on smaller needles.
1st row (RS): 2 knit sts, * 2 purl sts, 2 knit sts; repeat from * to end of row.
Continue ribbing with 2 knit sts and 2 purl sts until the length of the piece measures 7 cm from the start, finish with a purl row, adding 1 st in the center of the last row = 75 (83, 91, 99, 107) sts.
Change to larger needles.
Start of Chart 1:
1st row (RS): 11 (15, 19, 23, 27) knit sts, knit 3 times the 15 st repeat, knit to the end of the chart, knit sts to end of row.
2nd row (WS): 11 (15, 19, 23, 27) purl sts, knit to the repeat line, knitting the 15 st repeat 3 times, purl to end of row.
Continue in the chart in this manner until the length measures 28 (29, 30.5, 31.5, 33) cm from the start, finishing with the 3rd row of the chart.
Start of Chart 2:
Note: read before continuing knitting.
Starting row (setup, WS): 11 (15, 19, 23, 27) purl sts, knit from 24th to 9th st, then from 40th to 1st st, purl to end of row = 78 (85, 94, 102, 110) sts.
1st row (RS): 11 (15, 19, 23, 27) knit sts, knit from 1st to 40th st, then from 9th to 24th st, knit to end of row.
Continue knitting in the chart in this manner up to the 24th row, at the same time when the piece matches the back up to the armhole, work the armhole as on the back = 59 (63, 67, 73, 77) sts, when the shaping and chart are completed.
Neckline:
Note: continue knitting as established, when shaping the neckline work paired decreases and yarn overs only if there are enough stitches, otherwise, knit in stockinette stitch.
The next row (RS): knit 18 (20, 22, 25, 27) sts of the pattern, place the middle 23 sts on a stitch holder for the front neckline, join the 2nd skein of yarn and knit to end of the pattern.
Knitting both sides simultaneously, decrease 1 st on each row of the neckline 8 times, then in every 2nd row 3 (3, 3, 4, 4) times, in every 4th row one more time = 6 (8, 10, 12, 14) sts remain on each side.
Knit straight until the height of the armhole equals the armhole of the back to the shoulder.
Shape the shoulder as on the back.
Left Sleeve:
Cast on 46 (46, 46, 50, 50) sts on smaller needles.
1st row (RS): 2 knit sts, * 2 purl sts, 2 knit sts; repeat from * to end of row.
Continue ribbing with 2 knit sts and 2 purl sts for another 5 rows, finish with a purl row and evenly increase 2 sts along the last row = 48 (48, 48, 52, 52) sts.
Change to larger needles.
Start of Chart 2:
Note: without knitting the starting row, start with the 1st row.
1st row (RS): 12 (12, 12, 14, 14) knit sts, knit 24 sts according to the left sleeve chart, knit to end of row.
2nd row (WS): 12 (12, 12, 14, 14) purl sts, knit 24 sts according to the left sleeve chart, purl to end of row.
Continue knitting the chart until the 20th row, then repeat from the 1st to the 20th rows, simultaneously adding 1 st on each side, including the added sts in the pattern, add once more in every 4th row, then another 5 (6, 7, 7, 8) times in every 6th (4th, 4th, 4th, 4th) row = 60 (62, 64, 68, 70) sts.
Knit straight until the length of the piece measures 25.5 cm from the start, finish with a purl row.
Cap of the Sleeve:
At the beginning of the next 2 rows, bind off 3 (4, 5, 6, 7) sts.
Continue the pattern as established, decreasing 1 st on each side in every row 7 (5, 3, 3, 1) times, then in every 2nd row 8 (10, 12, 13, 15) times.
On each side in every row, decrease 2 times by 1 st = 20 sts.
The next row (with decreases, WS): evenly decrease 4 sts along the row = 16 sts.
Bind off the stitches.
Assembly of Parts:
Work the right shoulder seam. Neckline band:
From the RS and with smaller needles, pick up 22 sts along the edge of the left neckline, knit 23 sts from the stitch holder of the front neckline, evenly decreasing 3 sts, along the edge of the right neckline pick up 22 sts in knit, knit 36 sts from the stitch holder for the back neckline, evenly decreasing 2 sts = 98 sts.
The next row (WS): 2 knit sts, * 2 purl sts, 2 knit sts; repeat from * to end of row.
Continue ribbing for another 5 rows.
Bind off all stitches in rib pattern.
Work the left shoulder seam and the neckline band seam.
Set in the sleeves.
Work the side seams and the sleeve seams.
