Sweater with yoke and cable pattern knitted with needles

An excellent model of a knitted sweater captivates at first sight. The sweater with a small stand-up collar and a beautiful yoke with a pattern of converging braids looks great in any yarn color.

YOU WILL NEED

Yarn (100% wool; 50 g/165 m) — 8 (9) 10 (11) 12 balls of purple (color 014); straight needles No. 3.5 and 4; circular needles No. 4, 40 and 60–80 cm long; double-pointed needles No. 3.5; needles for "braids"; auxiliary needles; stitch markers.

STOCKINETTE STITCH

Right side rows — knit stitches, wrong side rows — purl stitches.

Stockinette stitch in the round: alternate 1 row knit and 1 row purl.

RIBBING

Knit alternately 1 knit, 1 purl.
In subsequent rows, knit stitches according to the pattern.

Then repeat the 6 rounds on the chart.

“BRAID” PATTERN 1 ON 14 STITCHES

Knit according to chart 1.
Round 1–6 repeat 3 (4) 4 (4) 4 times.

“BRAID” PATTERN 2 ON 12 STITCHES

Knit according to chart 2. Round 1–6 repeat 3 (4) 2 (4) 3 times.
Only for size 44/46: repeat rows 1–5 2 more times.

“BRAID” PATTERN 3 ON 10 STITCHES

Knit according to chart 3. Round 1–5 repeat 3 (4) 3 (3) 4 times.

“BRAID” PATTERN 4 ON 8 STITCHES

Knit according to chart 4. Round 1–5 repeat 4 (3) 4 (4) 5 times.

GAUGE

21 sts x 29 rows = 10 cm, knitted in stockinette stitch on needles No. 4.

 BACK

On needles No. 3.5, cast on 117 (131) 141 (153) 165 sts and knit 6 cm in ribbing.

In the last wrong side row, evenly decrease 14 (16) 16 (18) 20 sts = 103 (115) 125 (135) 145 sts.
Switch to needles No. 4 and continue knitting in stockinette stitch.

When the length of the work reaches 40 (40) 42 (44) 45 cm, in the next wrong side row, bind off 3 sts on both sides.
** Transfer the first 48 (54) 59 (64) 69 sts to an auxiliary needle, and the last 49 (55) 60 (65) 70 sts to a second auxiliary needle.

FRONT

Knit as for the back, up to **.

Transfer the remaining 97 (109) 119 (129) 139 sts to an auxiliary needle.

SLEEVES

On needles No. 3.5, cast on 49 (51) 53 (55) 57 sts and knit 6 cm in ribbing, as described for the back (last row = right side row).

Switch to needles No. 4 and continue knitting in stockinette stitch, evenly increasing 23 (25) 31 (33) 35 sts (knitting 2 sts from 1 st) = 72 (76) 84 (88) 92 sts.

Continue knitting straight until the length of the work reaches 46 (46) 47 (48) 48 cm. In the next wrong side row, bind off 3 sts on both sides.

Transfer the remaining 66 (70) 78 (82) 86 sts to an auxiliary needle.
The second sleeve is knitted the same way.

YOKE

On circular needles No. 4, transfer the stitches from the auxiliary needle as follows: knit them, starting from the left side of the back and simultaneously making one decrease at the beginning, then knit the left sleeve, front (make 1 decrease in the middle), right sleeve, and right side of the back = 324 (356) 392 (420) 448 sts.

Continue knitting in the round on all stitches: 39 (12) 13 (9) 20 knit, 2 sts knit together, [79 (20) 31 (19) 13 knit, 2 sts knit together] 3 (15) 11 (19) 27 times, 40 (12) 14 (10) 21 knit = 320 (340) 380 (400) 420 sts. Attach a marker at the end of the round.

Next round: [make an increase from the next 3 sts, 1 purl, 24 (26) 30 (32) 34 knit, 1 purl, make an increase from the next 3 sts] 10 times = 380 (400) 440 (460) 480 sts.

Then distribute the stitches as follows: [7 sts "braids" according to chart 1 (2nd half = stitches 8–14), 24 (26) 30 (32) 34 sts garter stitch (start with 1 purl row in the round), 7 sts "braids" according to chart 1 (1st half = stitches 1–7)] 10 times.

Continue knitting with this stitch distribution, simultaneously making decreases: the last stitch on the chart is knit together with the 1st stitch of the garter stitch as a purl, and the last stitch of the garter stitch is knit together with the 1st stitch on the chart as a purl — in the 6th round and every subsequent 6th round — a total of 8 times, then in every subsequent 5th round 3 times (7th round and every subsequent 7th round — a total of 8 times, and then in every 6th round 3 times) 7th round and every subsequent 6th round — a total of 12 times, and then in every 5th round 1 time (6th round and every subsequent 6th round — a total of 11 times, and then in every 5th round 2 times) 6th round and every subsequent 6th round — a total of 11 times, and then in every 5th round 3 times. In each round with decreases, 20 sts will be decreased.

Continue knitting the "braid" pattern according to chart 2 for 16 (20) 19 (16) 16 rounds.
In the next round again make decreases for the "braid": [2 knit, 1 simple decrease, 1 knit, 1 purl, knit garter stitch to the next 12 sts on chart 2, 1 purl, 1 knit, 2 sts knit together, 2 knit] 10 times.

Continue knitting the "braid" pattern according to chart 3 for 15 (17) 17 (17) 19 rounds.

In the next round again make decreases for the "braid": [1 knit, 1 simple decrease, 1 knit, 1 purl, knit garter stitch to the next 10 sts on chart 2, 1 purl, 1 knit, 2 sts knit together, 1 knit] 10 times.

Continue knitting the "braid" pattern according to chart 4 for 17 (12) 17 (17) 22 rounds and finish knitting the "braid" (2nd round on the chart).

Then evenly distribute the stitches between 4 out of 5 double-pointed needles No. 3.5 and continue knitting according to the pattern without decreases.
After knitting 22 (22) 23 (23) 23 rounds, bind off the remaining 100 (120) 120 (140) 140 sts.

ASSEMBLY

Sew the side seams and the sleeve seams.
Sew closed the holes at the armhole areas.
