This long pullover, knitted from a special issue of VERENA, is suitable for the office, study, walks, and leisure.
The diagonal pattern may seem complex, but in fact, even beginner knitters can handle it.
Size: S (42) — bust circumference 92 cm, pullover length 79 cm.
You will need: 400 g of brown thin merino wool yarn (130 m/50 g), knitting needles #4.5 and #5.

Description of knitting:
PATTERNS:
Pattern 1: (needles #4.5) ribbing = alternating 1 purl, 1 knit.
Pattern 2: (needles #5) "Cable" pattern = according to the knitting chart. The chart shows the first half of the repeat and the right-side rows. In the wrong-side rows, knit the stitches according to the pattern or instructions. The second half of the repeat is knitted in a mirrored reflection. Repeat rows 1–182 once.
Pattern 3: (needles #5) reverse stockinette = right-side rows – purl stitches, wrong-side rows – knit stitches.Knitting density: pattern 2 (needles #5) – 21 sts x 32 rows = 10 x 10 cm.
BACK: Cast on 85 sts and knit with pattern 1. After 9 cm from the starting row, switch to pattern 2 = 91 sts after the 33rd row.
Armholes: after 48 cm from the starting row (measure by suspending), decrease on both sides according to the knitting chart = 73 sts.
Shoulders: at armhole height of 21 cm, decrease on both sides according to the knitting chart. Then knit straight on the remaining 47 sts. After 79 cm from the starting row, loosely bind off all stitches.
FRONT: Knit as for the back.
SLEEVES: Cast on 44 sts for each sleeve and knit with pattern 1. After 9 cm from the starting row, switch to pattern 3.
For the side shaping, increase on both sides every 10th row 8 x 1 st. = 60 sts. Sleeve cap: after 46 cm from the starting row, bind off 2 x 2 sts every 2nd row and decrease 4 x 1 st., decrease every 4th row 3 x 1 st., then decrease every 2nd row 5 x 1 st. and bind off 1 x 2 sts and 2 x 3 sts.
At sleeve cap height of 15 cm, bind off the remaining stitches.ASSEMBLY: Sew the seams. Set in the sleeves.
