SLEEK SLIPOVER This simple vest is knitted from the top down. The elegant design combines modern and classic details with wide deep armholes and ribbed bands that echo the bottom edge. After the round neck is completed, the neckline is shaped with short rows, and the back and front are knitted separately to form deep armholes. Before knitting the bottom edge ribbing, the armhole bands are knitted.

TECHNIQUE
You can also look for instructional videos on YouTube and other websites that will be easy for you to understand.
COLLAR
Cast on 68 (70) 74 (78) 82 sts on size 5 needles using the Italian/Tubular Cast-On method.
TIP! Start with size 4.5 needles and then switch to size 5 needles for the neatest edge. Be careful not to pull the stitches too tightly.
Join the stitches in a round and PM the beginning of the round (at the center back - CB).
Work 3.5 cm [1½”] in round stitches with twisted ribbing <1
BODICE
Short Rows (German Short Rows)
Switch to circular needles size 6.
The bodice is knitted in stockinette stitch, and the neckline is shaped with short rows.
Establishing round: 14 (15) 16 (17) 18 knit sts, 7 knit sts, PM, 26 (26) 28 (30) 32 knit sts, PM, 7 knit sts, PM, 14 (15) 16 (17) 18 knit sts, SM (beginning of the round)
Row 1 (RS): knit to marker, +1K, SM, knit to marker, SM, +1K, 2 knit sts, turn (2 sts increased)
Row 2 (WS): purl to beginning of round (slipping markers), SM, purl to marker, +1P, SM, purl to marker, SM, +1P, 2 purl sts, turn (2 sts increased)
Row 3 (RS): knit to beginning of round (slipping markers), SM, knit to marker, +1K, SM, knit to marker, SM, +1K, knit 2 sts further than the previous turn, then turn (2 sts increased)
*Work double stitches according to the technique of German Short Rows – under both legs as 1 stitch.
Row 4 (WS): purl to beginning of round (slipping markers), SM, purl to marker, +1P, SM, purl to marker, SM, +1P, purl 2 sts further than the previous turn, then turn (2 sts increased)
*Work double stitches according to the technique of German Short Rows – under both legs as 1 stitch.
Repeat rows 3-4 a total of 3 (3) 3 (3) 4 times.
Next row (RS): knit to beginning of round. Now you will have 84 (86) 90 (94) 102 sts on the needles [34 (34) 36 (38) 42 sts for the front, 36 (38) 40 (42) 46 sts for the back, and 7 sts for each shoulder line]. The neckline shaping is now complete.
Continue knitting the bodice in rounds, increasing stitches as follows:
Round 1: * <knit to marker, +1K, SM, knit to marker, SM, +1K> *, repeat * <> * once more, knit to end (4 sts increased)
Round 2: All sts knit.
Repeat Rounds 1-2 a total of 5 (6) 6 (7) 8 times.
Now you will have 104 (110) 114 (122) 134 sts on the needles.
Prepare to work the back and front separately as follows:
Establishing round: * <knit to 1 st before marker, +1K, 1 knit st, SM, knit to marker, SM, 1 knit st, +1K> *, repeat * <> * once more, knit to beginning of round.
Divide the body and shoulder stitches, removing all markers, as follows: knit to marker, place the next 7 sts on a stitch holder or a length of waste yarn (left shoulder), place the next 46 (48) 50 (54) 60 sts on a stitch holder or a length of waste yarn (front), place the next 7 sts on a stitch holder or a length of waste yarn (right shoulder).
Now you will have 48 (52) 54 (58) 64 sts for the back on the needles.
BACK
Starting with a WS row, knit straight in stockinette stitch until the height of the work is approximately 35 (36) 38 (40) 45 cm [13 ¾” (14¼”) 15” (15¾”) 17¾”] from the neckline edge at the center back (excluding the neck band ribbing).
Finish with a WS row. Cut the yarn. Place the stitches on a stitch holder or a length of waste yarn.
FRONT
Place the reserved 46 (48) 50 (54) 60 sts of the front on the needles and knit in stockinette stitch until the height of the front is approximately 27 (29) 31 (34) 37.5 cm [10½” (11½”) 12¼” (13½”) 14¾”] from the neckline edge of the front (excluding the neck band ribbing).
Finish with a WS row. Cut the yarn. Place on a stitch holder or a length of waste yarn.
ARMHOLE BANDS IN RIBBING
Left Armhole
Switch to size 5.5 needles.
From the RS, pick up approximately 1 st in each row, pick up and knit 43 (45) 49 (53) 59 sts along the edge of the front armhole, knit 7 knit sts of the shoulder, pick up and knit 51 (51) 53 (57) 63 sts along the edge of the back armhole. You will have 101 (103) 109 (117) 129 sts on the needles (the total number of stitches is odd).
Next row - WS row.
Knit in twisted ribbing as follows:
Row 1 (WS): 1 knit st, * <1 twisted purl st, 1 twisted knit st> *, repeat from * <> * to last 2 sts, 1 twisted purl st, 1 knit st.
Row 2 (RS): 1 purl st, * <1 twisted knit st, 1 twisted purl st> *, repeat from * <> * to last 2 sts, 1 twisted knit st, 1 purl st.
Knit a total of 11 rows in twisted ribbing and finish with a WS row.
Before closing the stitches, knit 2 rows of double fabric as follows:
Row 1 (RS): 1 purl st, * <1 twisted knit st, slip 1 st with yarn in front> *, repeat from * <> * to last 2 sts, 1 twisted knit st, 1 purl st.
Row 2 (WS): 1 knit st, * <slip 1 st with yarn in front, 1 twisted knit st> *, repeat from * <> * to last 2 sts, 1 twisted purl st, 1 knit st.
Close all stitches using the Italian/Tubular Bind-Off method for 1x1 ribbing (Note that the instructional video starts with a knit st, but here you should start with a purl st.)
Right Armhole to be knitted symmetrically.
LOWER EDGE OF THE BODY
Join the front, back, and armhole bands to knit the body in the round using circular needles size 5.5 as follows:
Pick up and knit 13 sts along the edge of the ribbing of the right armhole of the back to the last row.
Place the ribbing of the right armhole of the front over the ribbing of the back, pick up and knit 1 st through the 1st st of the front ribbing and the last row of the back ribbing. Pick up and knit 13 sts along the edge of the ribbing of the right armhole of the front. 27 sts picked up.
Knit all stitches in knit (front)

Pick up and knit 13 sts along the edge of the ribbing of the left armhole of the front to the last row.
Place the ribbing of the left armhole of the front over the ribbing of the back, pick up and knit 1 st through the last row of the front and the 1st st of the back.
Pick up and knit 13 sts along the edge of the ribbing of the left armhole of the back. 27 sts picked up.
Knit all stitches in knit (back). Place a marker for the beginning of the round.
Now you have joined the stitches for the body and will have 148 (154) 158 (166) 178 sts on the needles.
Knit in twisted ribbing <1 twisted knit st, 1 twisted purl st>, until the height of the band is approximately 15 (16) 16 (17) 17 cm [6” (6¼”) 6¼” (6¾”) 6¾”].
Before closing the stitches, knit 2 rows of double fabric as follows:
Row 1 (RS): 1 purl st, * <1 twisted knit st, slip 1 st with yarn in front> *, repeat from * <> * to end of the round.
Row 2 (WS): 1 knit st, * <slip 1 st with yarn in front, 1 twisted knit st> *, repeat from * <> * to end of the round.
Close all stitches using the Italian/Tubular Bind-Off method for 1x1 ribbing.
FINISHING
Secure the ends of all yarns and perform wet blocking to measurements.
