The socks look quite unusual. They have non-folding cuffs, as we are usually accustomed to, but just a stripe of knot knitting, under which the main pattern runs: a textured transverse braid with an aran pattern, double, wrapping around the ankle.
The size of the socks is arbitrary and can be adjusted.
It is recommended to knit from merino yarn (113g/229m), brand Dream in Color Classy, one skein is enough for a pair.
For knitting, you will need circular needles, size 4.5 – 5 mm, and an additional needle (auxiliary needle) for the braid.
We will determine the required knitting density using a sample. From 23 stitches (st) you will get 10 cm in width if you knit in stockinette stitch (st st).
Technique for knitting beautiful women's socks with aran patterns on the cuffs with needles
Cuff
We will knit it sideways.
Cast on 31 stitches, we will knit in straight rows (st rows).
Base row:
- 9 knit stitches (ks); 3 purl stitches (ps); 3 ks; 6 ps; 3 ks; 3 ps; 4 ks.
Next, we will knit as follows.
1st st row (RS – right side): slip 1 st; 3 ps; 3 ks; 3 ps;
braid (slip 3 sts onto the aux needle; place it in front of the work; knit 3 ks from the left needle; 3 ks from the aux needle);
3 ps; 3 ks; 3 ps; 6 ks.
2nd st row (WS – wrong side): 9 ks; 3 ps; 2 ks;
braid (slip 1 st onto the aux needle; place it in front of the work; knit 3 ps from the left needle; 1 ks from the aux needle);
braid (slip 3 sts onto the aux needle; place it behind the work; knit 1 ks from the left needle; 3 ps from the aux needle);
2 ks; 3 ps; 4 ks.
3rd st row: slip 1 st; 3 ps; 3 ks; 1 ps;
braid (slip 1 st onto the aux needle; place it behind the work; knit 3 ks from the left needle; 1 ps from the aux needle);
2 ps;
braid (slip 3 sts onto the aux needle; place it in front of the work; knit 1 ps from the left needle; 3 ks from the aux needle);
1 ps; 3 ks; 3 ps; 6 ks.
4th st row: 9 ks; 3 ps;
braid (slip 1 st onto the aux needle; place it in front of the work; knit 3 ps from the left needle; 1 ks from the aux needle);
4 ks;
braid (slip 3 sts onto the aux needle; place it behind the work; knit 1 ks from the left needle; 3 ps from the aux needle);
3 ps; 4 ks.
5th st row: slip 1 st; 3 ps;
braid (slip 3 sts onto the aux needle; place it in front of the work; knit 3 ks from the left needle; 3 ks from the aux needle);
6 ps;
braid (slip 3 sts onto the aux needle; place it behind the work; knit 3 ks from the left needle; 3 ks from the aux needle);
3 ps; 6 ks.
6th st row: 9 ks; 3 ps;
braid (slip 3 sts onto the aux needle; place it behind the work; knit 1 ks from the left needle; 3 ps from the aux needle);
4 ks;
braid (slip 1 st onto the aux needle; place it in front of the work; knit 3 ps from the left needle; 1 ks from the aux needle);
3 ps; 4 ks.
7th st row: slip 1 st; 3 ps; 3 ks; 1 ps;
braid (slip 3 sts onto the aux needle; place it in front of the work; knit 1 ps from the left needle; 3 ks from the aux needle);
2 ps;
braid (slip 1 st onto the aux needle; place it behind the work; knit 3 ks from the left needle; 1 ps from the aux needle);
1 ps; 3 ks; 3 ps; 6 ks.
8th st row: 9 ks; 3 ps; 2 ks;
braid (slip 3 sts onto the aux needle; place it behind the work; knit 1 ks from the left needle; 3 ps from the aux needle);
braid (slip 1 st onto the aux needle; place it in front of the work; knit 3 ps from the left needle; 1 ks from the aux needle);
2 ks; 3 ps; 4 ks.
Repeat these 8 st rows a total of 9 times.
Close all sts. Sew the edges of the cast-on and closed edges together with a seam.
Leg
Take a set of double-pointed needles, pick up 36 sts along the edge of the cuff fabric. Do not touch the edge of the garter stitch, pick up sts along the second edge.
Knit in the round, adding sts along the row to 52 sts on the needles. Knit 10 rounds in st st on all these sts.
Heel
1st part
Turn the work and knit st rows.
1st st row (WS): 25 ps; move the yarn to WS; slip 1 st; move yarn to RS (this is the "wrapped" st); turn.
2nd st row (RS): slip 1 st; 25 ks; wrap the st.
3rd st row: knit ps until the last st before the wrapped st; wrap the next st.
4th st row: knit ps until the last st before the wrapped st; wrap the next st.
Repeat rows 3-4 until there are only 10 sts between the wrapped sts.
2nd part
1st st row: 10 ps; knit the wrapped st together with the wrapping yarn as a ps; wrap the next st – now it is wrapped twice; turn.
2nd st row: knit ks until the wrapped st; knit the wrapped st together with the wrapping yarn as a ks; wrap the next st – now it is wrapped twice; turn.
3rd st row: knit ps until the wrapped st; knit the wrapped st together with the two wrapping yarns as a ps; wrap the next st – now it is wrapped twice; turn.
4th st row: knit ks until the wrapped st; knit the wrapped st together with the two wrapping yarns as a ks; wrap the next st – now it is wrapped twice; turn.
Knit this way until all 26 heel sts are "free".
Foot
Knit in the round, in circular rows (c rows), in st st.
When we reach the point where there are 5 cm left to the final length of the foot, we will start decreasing sts for the toes. We will decrease as follows.
1st c row: * 1 ks; 2 ks together with a yarn over; ks until the last three sts; 2 ks together; 1 ks.
2nd c row: all ks *.
Repeat 1-2 c rows until we see 20 sts on the needles.
Cut the yarn, thread it through all sts and pull tight. Hide the tail on the wrong side and secure it.
