Crochet Scarf by Robyn Chachula

A charming and romantic scarf crocheted with pearly buttons and a delicate edging. It is made from soft, luxurious Royal Alpaca — the perfect accessory to add tenderness and coziness to any look.

Designer: Robyn Chachula

Sizes

Neck circumference: 33 (35.5; 38; 42; 45.5) cm.
The photo shows a version with a length of 35.5 cm.

Materials

  • Yarn Blue Sky Alpacas Royal (100% alpaca, 100 m / 263 m).

  • Color A — brown, Color B — beige.

  • Hook size 3.7 mm.

  • 3 buttons with a pearlescent sheen.

Gauge

21 stitches × 22 rows = 10 × 10 cm, crocheted in double crochet through the back loop.

Main Part

With color A yarn, chain 26 stitches.

Row 1 (right side):
1 double crochet in the 2nd stitch from the hook, then 1 double crochet in each stitch to the end of the row. Turn (25 stitches).

Row 2:
1 double crochet through the back loop in each stitch of the row. Turn.

Repeat Row 2 until the scarf length reaches 39.5 (42; 44.5; 49.5; 52) cm.

Buttonholes:
1 ch, 1 dc through the back loop in the next stitch, 8 ch, skip 1 stitch, 1 dc in the next — repeat from * to * once more, then 1 dc through the back loop in each stitch to the end of the row.

Next row:
1 ch, 1 dc through the back loop in each stitch of the row.

Repeat Row 2 another 5 times. Finish off.

Border

(The chart is provided below in the original.)

Join color B yarn on the right side of the work, chain 9 stitches.

Row 1:
1 dc in the 6th stitch from the hook, (2 ch, 1 dc) — repeat 3 times, turn, leaving the last stitch unworked = 4 arches.

Row 2:
2 ch, 1 dc in each arch, 2 ch, 1 dc in the next arch, repeat to the end of the row.

Row 3:
5 ch, 1 sc in the first arch, 5 ch, 1 sc in the next arch, repeat to the end of the row.

Continue crocheting the edging along the edge of the piece, joining color B yarn on the right side of the scarf and repeating the pattern from the chart until completion.

Row 4:
2 ch, skip the first stitch, join to the scarf body, then 1 dc in the next arch.
Then skip the first stitch, the arch, and the second stitch of the previous row, 1 dc, 2 ch — repeat 3 times to the end of the row.

Repeat rows 3–4 along the entire length of the scarf.
End with Row 3.

Last row:
2 ch, join to the scarf body, 2 ch, skip the first arch, the arch and the second stitch of the previous row, 6 dc in the next arch, skip the next arch and 1 dc in the next arch, turn the work 90 degrees, 9 dc in the next arch, repeat from * to * another 3 times.
Finish the row by turning the work 90 degrees and slip stitch into the first stitch.

Finish off.
Return to the edge where you started the edging and repeat the border on the other side of the scarf.

In total, there will be 4 borders, connected in one direction — two along the edges at the outermost stitches and two at about 2.5 cm from the edge.

Finishing

  • Hide the yarn ends.

  • Try on the scarf, pin the button locations with pins, and sew them on.

💖 Tip:
The finished scarf looks especially refined when using buttons with a pearlescent sheen or decorative handmade buttons.
