To work, you will need 2 skeins of Clea 5 yarn (100% mercerized cotton, 750 meters per skein), a 1.5 mm hook.

Recently, mercerized cotton has appeared. This is natural cotton that has undergone a treatment called "mercerization".

Mercerization emphasizes the best properties of cotton and reduces its drawbacks:

— mercerized threads are much stronger than ordinary ones;

— mercerized cotton does not shrink when washed and practically does not wrinkle;

— it is easy to dye in bright, lasting colors, and the dye on mercerized cotton holds
much better and longer.

— mercerized cotton becomes soft and silky, acquiring a shine;

— it absorbs moisture well;

Not every variety of cotton is suitable for mercerized fabric. This means that any yarn can be mercerized. But for it to become high-quality and possess exceptional qualities, the initial material must also be of high quality. Therefore, manufacturers use elite varieties of long-staple cotton.

This is quite an expensive procedure, however, products made from treated yarn are worth the money spent – the buyer acquires a more beautiful, comfortable to use, and easy to care for item. Its owner enjoys lasting color, noble shine, eco-friendliness, and durability. Elegance, strength, comfort — pleasant properties of new technologies.

During mercerization, the natural fuzz is removed. As a result, the thread becomes smoother and shinier. Therefore, mercerized cotton is often confused with silk.

Cotton acquires a new quality after mercerization. Mercerized cotton looks similar to synthetic fibers or silk threads – it is shiny, strong, soft, and silky. Products made from mercerized yarn do not change color under bright sunlight or during washing. Thanks to higher hygroscopicity and silkiness, treated cotton is pleasant to wear. Cotton items are harder to tear or deform during washing.
