An interesting cardigan model with a round yoke for a girl. Knitting instructions for different sizes and ages of the child.

Sizes: 3/6 months (9 months–1 year–2 years) and 4 years; bust circumference: 52 (56–65–65) 73 cm; overall length: 26 (28–31–36) 40 cm; sleeve length: 14 (18–21–25) 28 cm. The length can be varied.

You will need: yarn Tynn Merinoull (100% merino wool; 175 m/50 g) – 3 (3–4–4) 5 skeins (50 g each) in yellow; 6 (6–7–7) 8 buttons; circular and double-point needles No. 2.5 and 3; stitch markers.

Alternative yarns: Mini Alpakka, Sisu, Alpakka Silke, Mamdarin Petit, Babyull Lanett. When choosing alternative yarn, read the label instructions carefully regarding composition, length and weight of the yarns.

Knitting patterns for the cardigan for a girl

Ribbing. When knitting in rows in the forward and backward directions: edge stitch, alternately 1 knit, 1 purl, edge; in purl rows, knit stitches according to the pattern. When knitting in rounds: alternating 1 knit, 1 purl.

Stockinette stitch. When knitting in rows in the forward and backward directions: knit rows – knit stitches, purl rows – purl stitches.

Reverse stockinette. When knitting in rows in the forward and backward directions: right-side rows – purl stitches, wrong-side rows – knit stitches.

The main pattern = structural patterns A and B. Knit sequentially according to the schemes A and B.

Edge stitches. Knit in every row.

Gauge: 28 stitches = 10 cm, knitted in the main pattern on needles No. 3.

Sizes refer to the finished garment, include ease, and correspond to the given gauge sample. Check your gauge against the gauge sample above. If you knit tighter or looser, switch to needles one size larger or smaller, respectively.

Note! The cardigan is knitted from top to bottom, starting with the neckline ribbing.

Knitting instructions for the girl's cardigan

Round yoke. On circular needles No. 2.5 cast on 78 (82–90–98) 106 stitches and for the neckline ribbing knit 3 rounds, the first round starting with an edge, 1 purl, 1 knit, 1 purl and end with an edge. Then knit on circular needles No. 3 in the main pattern according to schematic A, schematic A, with edges at the start and end of the row and with the increases indicated on the chart = 214 (226–250–274) 298 stitches. After 10 (11–12–13) 14 cm from the cast-on edge (see the indicated repeat in height on schematic A) divide the work as follows: knit the first 29 (32–35–38) 41 stitches for the first front, temporarily set aside the next 48 (48–54–60) 66 stitches for the first sleeve, bind off 12 (12–18–12) 18 stitches for the first armhole, knit the following 60 (66–72–78) 84 stitches for the back, temporarily set aside 48 (48–54–60) 66 stitches for the second sleeve, bind off 12 (12–18–12) 18 stitches for the second armhole, and knit the last 29 (32–35–38) 41 stitches for the second front.

Back and fronts. On the remaining 142 (154–178–178) 202 stitches knit in the main pattern according to schematic B, in rows in forward and reverse directions. After 25 (27–30–35) 39 cm from the cast-on edge, knit 1 cm of ribbing, as for the neckline, and bind off all stitches according to the pattern.

Sleeves. On circular needles No. 3 transfer the held stitches of one sleeve and pick up along one edge of the armhole 12 (12–18–12) 18 stitches = 60 (60–72–72) 84 stitches. To mark the sleeve cap slope, attach a marker to the 2 middle stitches along the lower edge of the cap and knit in rounds in the main pattern according to schematic B, schematic B, while on both sides of the marker decrease every 1.5 (2.5–2–2.5) cm by 1 stitch, until 48 (48–50–56) 58 stitches remain. Continue knitting in the main pattern, after 13 (17–20–24) 27 cm from the sleeve cast-on edge knit 1 cm of ribbing in rounds and bind off all stitches according to the pattern.

Assembly. Sew the underarm seams. For the placket on the left front, cast on on circular needles No. 2.5 along the front edge of the left front 77 (81–89–103) 113 stitches: 1 stitch from each row, but skipping every 4th row (the number of stitches is even + 1). Knit 2 cm of ribbing in rows in straight and reverse directions, the first row (= wrong side) start with an edge, then purl, knit, purl, and end with an edge, then bind off all stitches according to the pattern.

Similarly knit the placket on the right front and the right front, but 1 cm from the start of the placket make 6 (6–7–7–8) buttonholes (= 2 stitches knitted together, make 1 yarn over): place the top hole in the middle at the neckline corner of the band, the bottom hole at a distance of 2 cm from the bottom edge of the front, the others at equal intervals. Sew on the buttons.
