Measurements:
• Chest circumference: 41-46, 46-51, 51-56 cm.
• Actual measurements: 51, 56, 61 cm.
• Length from shoulder: 29, 31, 33 cm.
• Sleeve length: 5, 6, 6 cm.
Materials:
• 4 (5, 5) skeins of yarn (40 g each)
• Needles 4 mm, 3.75 mm, and 3.25 mm
• Satin ribbon 0.75 m long
• Elastic band 3 cm wide, length of waist circumference.
• 3 small buttons.
Gauge: 26 sts and 29 rows = 10 cm, pattern, using 4 mm needles.
BACK
** Using 3.25 mm needles cast on 156 sts and knit in garter stitch (all rows – knit) for 3 cm, finishing with a purl row. Change to 4 mm needles and knit the pattern as follows:
Row 1 (knit): (3 purl, 2 sts together knit, yarn over, 1 knit, 1 purl, 1 knit, yarn over, pass over (= 1 st slip, 1 knit, pass slipped st over), 3 purl) to the end of the row.
Row 2: (3 knit, 3 purl, 1 knit, 3 purl, 3 knit) to the end of the row.
Row 3: (2 purl, (2 sts together knit, yarn over) 2 times, 1 purl, (yarn over, pass over) 2 times, 2 purl) to the end of the row.
Row 4: (2 knit, 3 purl, 1 twisted knit, 1 knit, 1 twisted knit, 3 purl, 2 knit) to the end of the row.
Row 5: (1 purl, (2 sts together knit, yarn over) 2 times, 3 purl, (yarn over, pass over) 2 times, 1 purl) to the end of the row.
Row 6: (1 knit, 3 purl, 1 twisted knit, 3 knit, 1 twisted knit, 3 purl, 1 knit) to the end of the row.
Row 7: (1 purl, yarn over, slip 1 st, 2 sts together knit, pass slipped st over, yarn over, 5 purl, yarn over, pass over, re-slip the pass over back to the left needle and pass the next st over it, then return to the right needle, yarn over, 1 purl) to the end of the row.
Row 8: (1 knit, (1 twisted knit, 1 purl) 2 times, 3 knit, (1 purl, 1 twisted knit) 2 times, 1 knit) to the end
These 8 rows form the pattern.
Knit straight in pattern to 17 (18, 19) cm from the start, finishing with a purl row.
Next row: 10 (16, 20) knit, 3 sts together knit 45 (41, 38) times, 2 sts together knit, 9 (15, 20) knit, = 65 (73, 79) sts.
Change to 3.75 mm needles and knit ribbing as follows:
Row 1 (purl): 1 purl, (1 knit, 1 purl) to the end of the row.
Row 2: 1 knit, (1 purl, 1 knit) to the end of the row.
Repeat these 2 rows and knit straight for 3 cm to 20 (21, 22) cm from the start, finishing with a purl row. **
Change to 4 mm needles and knit in pattern, as described for the skirt, knitting the outer 0 (4, 7) sts in stockinette stitch with 5 pattern repeats in between, AT THE SAME TIME, cast off for the armhole:
Bind off 4 sts at the beginning of the next 2 rows, and 2 sts at the beginning of the next row.
Decrease 1 st from each end on the next row and every 2nd row until 49 (51, 53) sts remain, finishing with a purl row.
Continue straight in pattern to 28 (30, 32) cm from the start, finishing with a purl row.
Next row: bind off 7 sts, knit in pattern for the next 10 sts, bind off the next 13 (15, 17) sts, then knit in pattern to the end of the row.
Continue with the last sts, bind off 7 sts at the beginning of the next row, 4 sts at the beginning of the next 2nd row, and then bind off the remaining 7 sts.
Join the yarn from the neck side to the remaining sts and finish symmetrically to the first side.
FRONT
Knit as the back between ** **.
Next row: change to 4 mm needles and knit in pattern, distributing the sts as for the back, and knit the next row as follows: bind off 4 sts, knit in pattern for the next 27 (31, 34) sts, bind off the next st, then knit in pattern to the end of the row.
Now knit on the last sts, bind off for the armhole, as for the back, and decrease 1 st from the neck side every 2nd row 10 (11, 12) times, AT THE SAME TIME, when the front length reaches the same length as the back before starting the shoulder, bind off for the shoulder as described earlier.
Join the yarn from the neck side to the remaining sts and finish symmetrically to the first side.
SLEEVES
Change to 4 mm needles and knit in pattern, as for the first piece, and knit straight for 5 (6, 6) cm from the start, finishing with a purl row.
Bind off 4 sts at the beginning of the next 2 rows, 3 sts at the beginning of the next 2 rows, and 2 sts at the beginning of the next 2 rows.
Knit straight for 0 (1, 2) rows, then decrease 1 st from each end every 3rd row 4 times, then knit straight for 0 (1, 2) rows.
Bind off 2 sts at the beginning of the next 2 rows, 3 sts at the beginning of the next 2 rows, and 4 sts at the beginning of the next 2 rows. Bind off the remaining 21 sts.
Knit the second piece accordingly.
COLLAR
Using 3.25 mm needles cast on 41 (45, 49) sts and knit in garter stitch for 9 cm, finishing with a purl row.
Next row: 10 knit, bind off 21 (23, 25) sts, then knit knit to the end of the row.
Now knit on these last sts, keeping the side edge straight, decrease 1 st from the neck side every 4th row until 2 sts remain, finishing with a purl row.
Knit 2 sts together, then cut the yarn and pull tight.
Join the yarn from the neck side and finish symmetrically to the first side.
INSERT
Using 3.75 mm needles cast on 3 sts, then, knitting in garter stitch, increase 1 st from each end in the next row and every 4th row until there are 15 sts. Knit straight for 6.5 cm from the start, finishing with a purl row. Bind off the stitches.
RIBBING – lining.
Using 3.75 mm needles cast on 131 (147, 159) sts and knit in ribbing for 3 cm, finishing with a purl row.
Bind off stitches in pattern.
ASSEMBLY
Sew the shoulder seams, then set the sleeves into the armholes. Sew the side seams and sleeve seams. Cut an elastic band equal to the child's waist circumference and sew it into a ring. Secure from the inside of the waist, and sew the ribbing – lining over the elastic band. Sew the collar to the neckline, matching the ends at the center front. Tie a bow from satin ribbon at this point. Sew the right edge of the insert. On the other side of the insert sew buttons for fastening. Do not iron. Hide all yarn ends.
