I remove the edge stitches. You can do it however you like, but don't forget to count them. If it says 5 stitches, that includes the edge stitch. Instead of a yarn over, I make a stitch from the wrap between the stitches. I place it on the needle turned upside down and knit it through the back loop. This way, there won't be any holes.
Cast on 38 stitches.

Now we have 54 stitches on the needles.
The bottom of the sole is ready.

Let's start knitting the toe
While the sole and the side part are knitted like in any booties, the toe is a little different. So, let’s go into detail.

Mark the middle of the row.
Knit to the middle with knit stitches and then 2 more stitches.

Turn.
Knit 1 stitch, then 4 knit stitches.
Turn.
Knit 1 stitch.
Knit 3 to the marker and 3 after the marker.

And so in each row we add 1 stitch until there are 12 stitches in work.
We get such a little triangle.

Turn and now we do not add a stitch, but knit the 12th stitch of the toe together with the stitch of the side part.
In the purl row, purl. In the knit row, knit.
5 rows.
I do not cut the white yarn. I will use it later to finish the tongue.
Let's continue knitting with blue yarn.
6 rows.
So, we have 12 stitches in work. And on the side needles, there are 15 stitches left.
We start knitting the tongue.
Knit only 12 stitches to the height you need.
For me, that’s 18 rows.
Close the stitches of the tongue.

Immediately finish the tongue with white yarn.





Let's start knitting the side parts of our sneaker.
There are 30 stitches on the needles. We add 4 stitches on each side. In total, we will have 38 stitches in work. Both sides are knitted in one piece.

Knit 4 rows with knit stitches with blue yarn.

Now, in every second row, we decrease. We knit the first two stitches and the last two stitches together.
Knit to the desired height (for me, 12 rows), then close the stitches.

Finish with white yarn. Sew the sole.
The sneaker is ready.

A small clarification.
I did not make holes for the laces. If you decide to make holes, then in every 4th row at the beginning and at the end of the row knit a yarn over and 2 together.
