How to knit a hat for a newborn with needles, what yarn is best to use?

For knitting for little children, any soft yarn can be used; of course, natural yarn made of wool or cotton has always been and will be the best. You can also use special yarn for children: Wendy "Chester," "Children's Acrylic," "Children's Caprice" made of acrylic.

Before you start knitting, you need to choose suitable needles according to thickness and knit a sample for calculating stitches.

Start knitting the hat from the child's face. For this, cast on stitches according to the calculation for 28 cm (circumference of the face) and knit in 1x1 ribbing for 2 centimeters, then in stockinette stitch for 8 cm. Divide the total number of stitches into 3 equal parts and knit the bottom of the hat, like the heel of a sock (fig. 1). After you reach halfway through the bottom, you also need to gradually decrease the width of the bottom; by the end of knitting, it should be 3 cm (fig. 2).

Now the stitches of the lower edge of the bottom remain on the needles; you need to cast on stitches on both sides of it, which will be the lower part of the hat (the neck) (fig. 3). Now knit in 1x1 ribbing for another 2.5 cm and close the stitches. Make ties. Your hat is ready; it just needs to be washed (fig. 4).

And how to knit a hat for a newborn with a hook?

Start knitting the bonnet from the bottom with a chain of air stitches 10 cm long. Crochet double crochets around the chain on both sides, evenly increasing 7 times at the turn. Knit 4 cm on each side in the wide part of the bottom of the hat (in the narrow part it should be 2 cm, for this you make darts) (fig. 9), and move on to knitting the even part without increases to a height of 10 cm (fig. 10). Finish the lower edge of the bonnet with one row of single crochets, the second with a net, and the third again with single crochets. Finish the front part of the bonnet with single crochets, slightly tightening the knitting. The hat for the newborn with a hook is ready. Now decorate it to your taste.

You can knit a fancy bonnet, using any lace pattern for the main part (fig. 11).
