Knitted Owl Hat
This charming hat is knitted and will fit any head size.
Size: the sample is designed for a head circumference of 46–48 cm. How to adapt the model to other sizes is shown in the video below.
Materials: 70 g of Yarn Art Silky Royal yarn (consisting of 35% silk-rayon and 65% merino wool, yarn length — 140 m per 50 g). Needles No. 3.5 and No. 4.5.
Gauge: 16.5 stitches = 10 cm in stockinette stitch, worked with two strands on 4.5 mm needles.
On size 3.5 mm needles, cast on 81 stitches and knit in turning rounds.
Row 1 (RS): slip the first stitch, knit, last stitch purl.
Row 2: slip the first stitch, purl.
Rows 3–6: repeat the first two rows.
Switch to needles 4.5 mm.
Mark the central 21 stitches with markers — this is the pattern section.
7th row: slip the first stitch, 29 purl, knit 21 stitches following the Owl pattern chart, then 30 purl.
8th row: slip the first stitch, 29 knit, 21 stitches following the chart, 29 knit, last — purl.
Continue knitting, performing on the sides (30 stitches on each side) reverse stockinette, and in the center — the Owl pattern per the chart.
When the entire pattern is completed, continue knitting in reverse stockinette on all stitches to a total height of 18.5 cm (including the rows with the pattern). After that, the top of the hat is temporarily set aside.
Sew the back seam.
To shape the crown, transfer the live stitches to double-pointed needles and draw them together according to the decrease scheme: 14, 6, 6, 28, 6, 6, 14 stitches.
Fold the top of the hat along a fold, as shown in the video, and neatly sew the seam.
