The knitting starts with the Italian cast-on. Using needles size 2.5.

Girls familiar with this technique can skip the next paragraph. For those who are not yet familiar with this type of cast-on - the next paragraph is for your assistance!

How I do the Italian cast-on - I crochet a chain from a waste yarn equal to half the number of stitches + one stitch (to join in a circle). Since we need to cast on 88 stitches for the hat, we cast on with the waste yarn 88/2 = 44 + 1 = 45 chain stitches and join in a circle. Next, we take the main yarn and work from the chain as follows: a stitch from the chain stitch (these will be the knit stitches later), a yarn over (these will be the purl stitches later), again a stitch from the next chain stitch, then another yarn over. We alternate this until the end, finishing with a yarn over. The next rounds are knitted as follows: in the 1st and 3rd rows - we slip the knit stitches, yarn behind the stitches, purl the purl stitches. In the 2nd and 4th rows, we knit the knit stitches, slip the purl stitches, yarn in front of the stitches.

Starting from the 5th row, knit 7 or more (to the desired number of rows) of a 1x1 ribbing with needles size 3.

When the ribbing seems sufficient, with needles size 3.5 we knit the setup row: 27 stitches of stockinette stitch, 1 purl stitch (this will be a purl row between the stockinette and the side patterns), then on 15 stitches of the side pattern we knit as follows: knit the knit stitches from the ribbing, and for the purl stitches from the ribbing we knit 2 knit stitches. Thus, from 15 stitches we will get 22 stitches needed for the pattern.

Next, we knit the front and back of the hat in stockinette stitch, and the sides according to the pattern:
Repeat rows 7 to 12 until row 37, from row 37 the pattern changes, as instead of crossing at the edges of the pattern we start decreasing by knitting two stitches with a tilt towards the center of the pattern. The pattern for further knitting is:
Repeat these 4 rows until there are two stitches left in the side patterns.

Next step: sew the two parts of the knitting together stitch by stitch.
