Required materials:

Yarn: 100% merino, 125 g/50 m.
Yarn usage: 3.5 balls for a head circumference of 55-57 cm.

Needles: 4 and 5 on a 40 cm circular cord.

Needle with a large eye

Knit using two strands!
On needles size 4, cast on 97 stitches.
Join the knitting in the round. 96 stitches on the needles.
Place a marker, and knit in 1x1 rib - 14.5 cm.

Switch to needles size 5 and start knitting the pattern.
Pattern repeat 16 stitches - “8 knit, 3 purl, 2 knit, 3 purl.”
Rows 1–45: knit following the pattern; in each row the repeat repeats 6 times.
In rows 10, 20, 30, 40 perform cable cross as follows: move the first 4 stitches to the auxiliary needle and leave in front of the work, the next 4 stitches knit. Then knit the stitches from the auxiliary needle.

From row 46, start decreasing!
Row 46: 8 knit, 2 purl together, 1 purl, 2 knit, 2 purl together, 1 purl - repeat to the end of the row;
Row 47: knit according to the pattern with no decreases;
Row 48: 8 knit, 2 purl together, 2 knit, 2 purl together - repeat to the end of the row;
Row 49: knit according to the pattern with no decreases;
Row 50: 8 knit, 1 purl, 2 knit together, 1 purl - repeat to the end of the row;
Row 51: knit according to the pattern with no decreases;
Row 52: 2 stitches knit together with a left-leaning decrease, 4 knit, 2 stitches knit together with a right-leaning decrease, 1 purl, 1 knit, 1 purl - repeat to the end of the row;
Row 53: knit according to the pattern with no decreases;
Row 54: 2 stitches knit together with a left-leaning decrease, 2 knit, 2 stitches knit together with a right-leaning decrease, 1 purl, 1 knit, 1 purl - repeat to the end of the row.
Cut the yarn, leaving a tail about 15-20 cm, thread it through the remaining stitches, and pull tight.
We perform VTO.
