Knitted hat

Materials used:

Yarn ONline Linie 165 Sandy 100% mercerized cotton 120m/50g, consumption about 80 g.
Circular needles size 2.5 for the ribbing and size 3.5 for the main pattern.
The hat is knitted in the round.

Size 3-5 years (head circumference 51-54 cm). Hat height 20 cm.

The hat pattern and decreases are calculated for this number of stitches and an odd number of repeats. Decreases are distributed in groups of 3 repeats.
To increase or decrease the size you can:
1. By increasing/decreasing the needle size or yarn thickness.
2. By adding/removing 3 repeats of the pattern.

Description:

On circular needles size 2.5, cast on 150 stitches, join into a circle and knit in 1x1 rib for 4.5 cm (20 rows). The ribbing begins with a purl stitch!

There are 15 pattern repeats across the width and one and a half repeats in height (Diagram 1).
In the first repeat, the first 5 rows are slightly altered. Diagram 2 visually shows the changed pattern (in the written description rows are indicated with *). The yarn-overs are worked as knit stitches.

In almost all of my cotton hats I thread an elastic thread-strap or a thin elastic at the beginning of the rib and in the middle or end. This makes the hat fit better and the rib pattern itself doesn’t stretch.
