Materials

2 (2, 2, 3) skeins of yarn  (100% acrylic, 141 g/234m)

Circular needles No. 5, 60 cm

Regular needles No. 5

3 pins (2 small and 1 large)

7 (8, 8, 9) buttons

Knitting density

17 stitches = 10 cm

24 rows = 10 cm

Check your knitting density and, if necessary, change the needles to those that will maintain the required knitting density.

Sizes

Knitted top for a baby aged 3 months. Adjustments for a 6-month-old, 1-year-old, and 1.5-year-old baby are given in parentheses.

Chest circumference: (52 (57, 62, 67.5) cm),

The knitted hat for a baby is designed for ages 3-6 months. Adjustments for a 1-year-old and a 1.5-year-old baby are given in parentheses.

Hat diameter (38 (45.5) cm), when stretched 

Special abbreviations:

sk2p = slip the next stitch as a knit onto the right needle, knit 2 together, put the slipped stitch back on the knitted 2 together.

ssk = slip the next 2 stitches, insert the left needle through the front of the stitches and knit 3 together through the back stitch.

Stitches of the pattern

Rice stitch

Row 1 (right side): *1 KNIT, 1 purl; repeat from * to the end of the row.

Row 2: *1 PURL, 1 knit; repeat from * to the end of the row.

Repeat these 2 rows to complete the rice stitch.

Star Lace pattern (starts with 4 stitches and increases to 12)

Row 1 (right side): 1 purl, 1 knit, yarn over, 1 knit, yarn over, 1 knit.

Row 2: 5 purls, 1 knit.

Row 3: 1 purl, 5 knits.

Row 4: 5 purls, 1 knit.

Row 5: 1 purl, 2 knits, yarn over, 1 knit, yarn over, 2 knits.

Row 6: 7 purls, 1 knit.

Row 7: 1 purl, 7 knits.

Row 8: 7 purls, 1 knit.

Row 9: 1 purl, 3 knits, yarn over, 1 knit, yarn over, 3 knits.

Notes:

1. The baby top is knitted as a single piece from the neckline to the armholes. Then it is divided into the front, back, and sleeves.

2. The main fabric of the baby's top is knitted from the armhole to the lower edge.

3. Use markers to separate the Star Lace patterns. Count the stitches.

4. The knitted hat for the baby is knitted from the top down.

Knitting the baby's top

Cast on 55 (59, 63, 67) stitches. Knit back and forth on straight needles.

Rows 1 and 2: knit.

Row 3 (buttonhole row – wrong side): 1 knit, 2 knits together, yarn over  (make a buttonhole),  knit to the end of the row.

Rows 4 and  5: knit

Row 6: 3 knits, *1 purl, 3 knits; repeat from * to the end of the row.

Row 7: 4 knits, *3 purls, 1 knit; repeat from * to the last 3 stitches, 3 knits.

Then start the Star Lace pattern

Row 1 (right side): 3 knits, place a marker.

Row 1 of the pattern is worked over the next 48 (52, 56, 60) stitches, place a marker, 1 purl, 3 knits.

Row 2: knit to the marker, skip the marker, knit the next row according to the pattern to the next marker, skip the marker, knit knits to the end of the row

Row 3: knit to the marker, skip the marker, then knit according to the pattern, skip the marker, 1 purl, 3 knits.

Rows 4–7: repeat the last 2 rows twice.

Row 8 (buttonhole row – wrong side): 1 knit, 2 knits together, yarn over, 1 knit, skip the marker, knit the next row according to the Star Lace pattern to the marker, skip the marker, knit knits to the end of the row

Row 9: Repeat Row 3.

Rows 10–19: Repeat Rows 2 and  3  5 times.

Row 20 (buttonhole row): Repeat Row 8.

Rows 21–26: Repeat Rows 9 and  10  three times—151 (163, 175, 187) stitches.  The Star Lace pattern will be fully knitted.

Start from the right side, knit in rice stitch, including the placket, until the yoke reaches   (14 (15, 16.5, 18) cm), and  at the same time continue to make buttonholes at the beginning of every 12th row on the wrong side.

Separating stitches for the front, back, and sleeves.

Divide the row (right side): 3 knits, 1 purl, knit in rice stitch over the next 20 (22, 24, 26) stitches, place the next stitches on an additional needle  24 (26, 28, 30) (left front); knit in rice stitch the next  30 (32, 34, 36) stitches (left sleeve); place the next  97 (105, 113, 121) stitches on another additional needle  (back, right sleeve, right front).

Knitting the left sleeve

Only knit over the  30 (32, 34, 36) stitches of the left sleeve.

7 rows of rice stitch.

Decrease rows (right side): 1 knit, 2 knits together,  knit in rice stitch to the last 3 stitches,  ssk,  1 knit—28 (30, 32, 34) stitches.

Repeat the last 8 rows  2 (2, 3, 3) times—24 (26, 26, 28) stitches remain.

Knit in rice stitch until there are  (12.5 (14, 15, 16.5) cm) left, finish on the wrong side.

Knit 5 rows of knits and loosely bind off.

Knitting the right sleeve

From the right, knit rice stitch over the first 43 (47, 51, 55) stitches with the large additional needle, place these  stitches on another pin (back), knit rice stitch over 30 (32, 34, 36) stitches with the large needle (right sleeve).

The right sleeve is knitted the same as the left.

Knitting the main part of the baby's top

From the right, knit the next 24 (26, 28, 30) stitches with the large needle as follows: knit rice stitch over the next 20 (22, 24, 26) stitches, 1 purl, 3 knits  (for the right front).

The next row (wrong side): 4 knits, knit rice stitch over the right front and over 43 (47, 51, 55) stitches of the back from the additional needle, continue to knit rice stitch over the first 20 (22, 24, 26) stitches of the left front from the pin, knit the last 4 stitches from the pin—91 (99, 107, 115) stitches.

Continue to knit in rice stitch, including the placket, making buttonholes at the beginning of each 12th row for a total of 7 (8, 8, 9) on the wrong side.

Knit 5 rows of knits. Bind off on the wrong side.

Finishing the baby's top

Sew the sleeve seams. Sew on the buttons.

Knitting the baby hat

Cast on  6 (7) stitches.

Row 1 (wrong side): Knit

Row 2: 1 knit, *yarn over, 1 knit; repeat from * to the end of the row—11 (13) stitches.

Row 3: Knit

Row 4: Repeat Row 2—21 (25) stitches.

Row 5: 1 knit, *3 purls, 1 knit; repeat from * to the end of the row.

Beginning of Star Lace pattern

Row 1: knit row 1 of the Star Lace pattern to the last stitch, 1 purl—31 (37) stitches.

Row 2: 1 knit, knit the next row of the Star Lace pattern to the end of the row.

Row 3: knit the next row of the Star Lace pattern to the last stitch, 1 purl.

Repeat the last 2 rows until the Star Lace pattern is completed—61 (73) stitches.

Starting from the right side, knit in rice stitch  (2.5 (5) cm),  and finish on the wrong side.

Knit 5 rows of knits and bind off.

Finishing the knitted baby hat.

Sew the back seam. 

The yokes of the green and blue tops are identical. The pattern of the green top:

The lace pattern consists of four rows. The first row -  knit, * 1 purl,  then yarn over, 2 stitches together knit. Knit to the end of the row in lace*, then 1 purl, 1 knit. The second row - two knits, * 2 purls, 1 knit. Repeat to *, then 1 knit. The third row - 1 knit, 1 purl, * 2 stitches together knit, yarn over, 1 purl. Repeat to *,  1 knit.; the row - as the second. Don't forget about the edge stitches.
