Cast on 22 stitches and knit as follows
9 stitches in garter stitch (knit on both the right and wrong sides)
8 stitches in knit
5 stitches in garter stitch.
Purl rows as per the pattern.
Twist the cable every 10 rows.
I knitted 7 cables. Bind off the knitting.
Cast on 36 stitches at the edge, take the central 10 stitches and
knit 14 rows in stockinette stitch (this is the tongue), but it should be on the wrong side. The right side should be in purl stitch.
In the 11th and 13th rows, make decreases of 1 stitch from each edge, so that there are 6 stitches on the needle.
Next, we cast on stitches along the edge of the tongue; I ended up with 7 stitches. In total, we have 13 stitches + 7 stitches + 6 stitches + 7 stitches + 13 stitches, resulting in 46 stitches.
Knit 46 stitches for 12 rows in garter stitch.
Next, take 6 stitches in the center and start knitting the sole, adding stitches until there are 10 stitches.
Knit the sole until there are 6 stitches left on each side of the needles. Start decreasing the sole stitches to 6 stitches.
Bind off 6 stitches of the sole, and the remaining stitches on the needles are to be attached to the sole.
Cast on stitches from the chain for the edging along the sole; I cast on with 4 needles and knit 6 rows in stockinette stitch.
Bind off all stitches; yes, I initially added 1 stitch from the yarn over at the start of each needle so that the edging would not pull. Bind off the stitches loosely.
Twist the edging. I did not sew it; it seems to fit quite well.
On the wrong side, from the side of 5 stitches, I cast on 36 stitches along the edge and knitted 3 rows in knit, then bound them off and sewed along the edge of the cable.
You will get a fold where you can thread a cord.
