I knitted with Vita Brilliant yarn (380 m in 100 g. Half-wool) in three strands on 3.5 mm needles. It took a little over 40 g.
I gathered ideas from several master classes.

I cast on 28 stitches on one needle plus one stitch for closing in a circle. I distributed them on three needles (7/7/14).
I knitted 12 rows in a 1x1 ribbing.
One row of knit stitches.
I started to form the thumb gusset, distributing the stitches on four needles.
Row 1: 1 knit, yarn over, 26 knit, yarn over, 1 knit.
Row 2: all stitches knit, yarn overs knitted through the back loop. 30 stitches on the needles.
Row 3: 2 knit, yarn over, 26 knit, yarn over, 2 knit.
Row 4: as row 2. 32 stitches on the needles.
Row 5: 3 knit, yarn over, 26 knit, yarn over, 3 knit.
Row 6: as all even rows of the gusset.
Row 7: 4 knit, yarn over, 26 knit, yarn over, 4 knit.
Row 8: 36 knit stitches.
Separate the thumb stitches onto a spare thread:
Knit 32 knit stitches, slip 4 stitches onto a spare thread with a needle, move to the next row and slip the next 4 stitches. A total of 8 stitches were separated, leaving 28 stitches on the needles.
Knit in the round to the desired height. Keep in mind that the decreases will be about 2.5 cm. I got 23 rows from the end of the ribbing.
I made decreases by knitting two stitches together knitwise with a right-leaning decrease:
Decrease row 1: 1 knit, 2 together knit, 8 knit, 2 together, 2 knit, 2 together, 8 knit, 2 together, 1 knit. 24 stitches on the needles.
Decrease row 2 - all knit.
Decrease row 3: 1 knit, 2 together knit, 6 knit, 2 together, 2 knit, 2 together, 6 knit, 2 together, 1 knit. 20 stitches on the needles.
Row 4 - all knit.
Decrease row 5: 1 knit, 2 together knit, 4 knit, 2 together, 2 knit, 2 together, 4 knit, 2 together, 1 knit. 16 stitches on the needles.
Decrease row 6: 1 knit, 2 together knit, 2 knit, 2 together, 2 knit, 2 together, 2 knit, 2 together, 1 knit. 12 stitches on the needles.
Decrease row 7: 1 knit, 2 together knit, 2 together, 2 knit, 2 together, 2 together, 1 knit.
Pull the remaining 8 stitches tight with the working yarn.
Transfer the thumb stitches onto two needles. From the fabric of the mitten above the thumb hole, I cast on 4 additional stitches. For a normal width of the thumb, two would have been enough, but that would have created holes. I reduced the two extra stitches by knitting two together knitwise when knitting the third round.

When casting on new stitches, it is important to follow one rule: knit the stitches not from the working row, but from one row above and one row below.
We determine the working row as follows: slightly pull the stitches on the needle, look at which stitch stretches out, and do not use it. Take the stitches below and above this stitch from one side of the thumb, and then from the other side (above and below the stitches of the working row).
Knit the thumb to the desired height in knit stitches. I got 9 rows. In the next row, I knit all the stitches two together knitwise. I pull the remaining 5 stitches tight with the working yarn. I cut the yarn, pulling the ends to the inside with a hook.
From the inside, I hide all the ends using a blunt-tipped needle. Done. Just need to wash it.
