Knitted hat

This hat is knitted quickly and easily — suitable even for beginners!

Yarn: Peruvian hand-dyed wool, 100 m / 100 g
Usage: about 140 g for a standard-size hat (55–57 cm)
Needles:

• for ribbing — size 6

• for the main part — size 6.5
  For closing the crown, leave a tail of yarn about 2 meters long.

Before you start, it is recommended to knit a swatch and calculate gauge to determine the exact number of stitches.

Instructions

1. Cast on stitches
Cast on a multiple of 8 stitches.
The author cast on 72 stitches with size 6 needles.
Do not cast on an extra stitch to join in the round (if you do, you'll have 72 + 1 stitches).

2. Ribbing
For a neat, not-too-wide brim, knit in 1x1 rib (K1, P1) to a height of about 12 cm.

3. Main pattern
Switch to needles size 6.5, place a beginning-of-row marker, and knit according to the chart:

1. 4 purl, 4 knit.

2. 1 purl, 2 knit, 1 purl, 4 knit.

3. 4 purl, 4 knit.

4. 1 purl, 2 knit, 1 purl, 4 knit.

5. 4 purl, 4 knit.

6. 1 purl, 2 knit, 1 purl, 4 knit.

7. 4 knit, 4 purl.

8. 4 knit, 1 purl, 2 knit, 1 purl.

9. 4 knit, 4 purl.

10. 4 knit, 1 purl, 2 knit, 1 purl.

11. 4 knit, 4 purl.

12. 4 knit, 1 purl, 2 knit, 1 purl.

Then repeat the pattern from rows 1 to 12 until the desired height.
The author knitted to 31 cm (including the brim).

4. Decreases
Knit 2 stitches together knitwise in every row until 9 stitches remain.
Leave a yarn tail of 10–15 cm, cut, thread through a needle and pull tight to close the crown.
Tuck the end neatly inside.
