I started knitting based on this description, but then I adjusted it a bit for myself

If you are knitting not for yourself, it is preferable to have such measurements

I will be knitting from yarn: UNITY LIGHT (Unity Light) VITA. Composition: 48% wool, 52% acrylic. Ball weight: 100 g. Length: 200 m. Needles #5, using 2 strands for size 57 (head circumference, 36 (depth).
The stripes are knitted in French ribbing, here is a video showing how to knit

I cast on 16 stitches = 14 stitches of French ribbing + 2 edge stitches and knitted 4 cm. My width is 10 cm. More than that is unnecessary. From experience, I know that 12 cm at the bottom will already be too wide. Then, between the stripes, I start to add 1 stitch. The first increase I make is a twisted yarn over, and on the purl side, I knit them as knit stitches. There will be small holes, but that’s not a problem; they will be at the bottom and later we will add differently and there won’t be any holes. I will increase every 1 knit row until I have 5 purl stitches in the purl stripes since my yarn is thick (I am knitting with 2 strands). If I were to add in every knit row, the expansion would happen quickly, and I wouldn’t be able to fit within 12 cm. Anyone using thinner yarn should increase in every knit row.

Next, I will increase differently

14575218_33730thumb650 (610x413, 157Kb)

I need to increase once at the beginning of the purl stripe and a second time at the end. This is to prevent skewing.
And I will knit until I have 5 purl stitches. Then I will increase in every knit row. I will increase another stitch = 6 stitches in the purl stripes. In the next knit row, I added another purl stitch = 7 stitches, but I didn’t add in the outer stripes, only in the 4 middle ones. I don’t need to add more. It should result in 34-36 cm

14577838_69256thumb650 (610x339, 114Kb)

The main thing is to fit within 12 cm. That’s without the initial 4 cm. Next, we knit 6 cm straight, without increases. Then we start to decrease in the same order that we increased, and we also have 12 cm for that. After the decreases, only the stitches of the French ribbing should remain on the needles, without any purl stitches.

14585799_41316thumb650 (610x459, 120Kb)

I knitted 6 cm straight, then decreased for 12 cm. Here is what it looked like after the decreases. I will knit the stripes with a length of 26 cm. In any case, it is necessary to try on or know the measurements - head circumference divided by two and minus 2-3 cm.
Happy knitting everyone!!!

  • 100 g of Juniper Moon Farm Moonshine yarn (40% wool, 40% alpaca, 20% silk, 180 m/100 g) color #25 iced coffee;
  • circular (100 cm) and double-pointed needles # 4.5;
  • stitch markers;
  • removable stitch marker;
  • yarn needle.

Knitting density, stockinette stitch: 18.5 sts and 28 rows = 10 x 10 cm

Note
The edges of the cap are very elastic and will fit any head size. To make the cap deeper, simply add extra rows in the stockinette sections.

Place a marker and join in the round.
[4 rounds knit, 4 rounds purl.] Repeat 2 times.
4 rounds knit.
Bind off all stitches and cut the yarn, leaving a tail of about 15 cm. Using a needle and the left tail, sew up the gap at the beginning of the round.
Leave the tail hanging to mark the center of the back side of the Mobius.

Mobius twist
From the right side. Holding the Mobius ring so that the edge finished in stockinette stitch is on top, and the edge finished in garter stitch is on the bottom. Position the twist (the crossing) so that it is at an equal distance from the central tail. Insert a removable marker into the twist, at the place where the two edges cross.

Crown
Using double-pointed needles and from the right side, starting from the tail, pick up and knit 90 sts around the edge finished in stockinette stitch.
At the place of the removable marker of the twist, pick up 1-2 stitches through both layers of the fabric to secure the twist.
Place a marker and close in the round.

Knit in stockinette stitch for about 4.5 cm.

Crown shaping
Decrease in the round [3 knit, 2 knit together] 18 times = 72 sts will remain
4 rounds knit.
Decrease in the round [2 knit, 2 knit together] 18 times = 54 sts will remain
4 rounds knit.
Decrease in the round [1 knit, 2 knit together] 18 times = 36 sts will remain
2 rounds knit.
Decrease in the round [2 knit together] 18 times = 18 sts will remain
1 round knit.
Decrease in the round [2 knit together] 9 times = 9 sts will remain
Cut the yarn, leaving a tail of about 15 cm. Using a needle, thread the tail through the remaining stitches and pull tight, secure the yarn on the wrong side.

Hide all ends. Block the work.
